Must Read Comic Titles Coming In June/July

Hey Comic fans, with summer here, I wanted to talk about some must reads for the next two months. So here are my picks for titles coming in June/July.

Starting in June: Wolverine: 3 Months to Die, runs issues 8-12 of the main Wolverine series. It leads up to Charles Soule's mini-series The Death of Wolverine. Now for all Wolverine fans this is a must read as our favorite cigar smoking bad ass mutant hero comes to grip with his own mortality.
Thanks to an alien virus, Logan no longer has his famous healing factor, meaning that the character formerly able to come back from just about anything was now suddenly very vulnerable.

Now this is a May/ June release, but still a must read. The shocking truth about Deadpool’s family comes to light in DEADPOOL #29 – a tie-in to Original Sin! And the truth about the Merc With a Mouth upend the lives of those close to him in ways you never thought imaginable. All Deadpool Fans must pick this title up!!

Batman And Robin #33 Robin Rises. Now this story arc runs thru a few DC titles,GRAYSON#1 ,NEW SUICIDE SQUAD #1, TEEN TITANS #1.
'ROBIN RISES'! Picking up right where this month's ROBIN RISES #1 left off, it's Batman vs. the Justice League as the Dark Knight decides to follow the Chaos Shard back to its source: Apokolips! on sale July 23, 2014

These are just a few titles to look out for that comic fans should be reading. I will be posting about comics, movies, and industry news as SDCC approaches.

NYCC: Almost Human and The 100 Pilots Panel

Hey Otakus and Geeks fans, today was the first day of New York Comic Con 2013 and they did not disappoint! The next four days we will be posting news, photos, and special events of the day. Today we attended the Pilots Panel for two shows coming this November and January, Almost Human and The 100. Both Pilots were amazing and something viewers should defiantly check out. Here is a synopsis about each show and opinion about the pilots.

Almost Human

In the year 2048, technology has run amok and spun crime out of control, leading the police department to partner each human cop with an MX-43 android (or “synthetic”) — but Detective John Kennex (Urban), upon waking from a 17-month coma, is having none of that. Still, rules are rules, so he is paired with a decommissioned, “more human” model, the DRN (Ealy) — but just call him “Dorian

Thoughts on The Pilot: The pilot episode was great! I have to admit when I first saw the preview I said "Here we go A.I. feeling emotions show." But I was WRONG!!! The episode starts off with action, suspense, drama and keeps it going the entire time. The mystery about John Kennex (Urban) past memories, the criminal syndicate he is hunting, and why his DNR partner (Early) was decommissioned, is going to make a great first season. I don't want to give too much away so check it out November 4th on Fox.

The 100

In the future, humans live in city-like spaceships orbiting far above Earth's toxic atmosphere. No one knows when, or even if, the long-abandoned planet will be habitable again. But faced with dwindling resources and a growing populace, government leaders know they must reclaim their homeland... before it's too late.

Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents are being sent on a high-stakes mission to recolonize Earth. After a brutal crash landing, the teens arrive on a savagely beautiful planet they've only seen from space. Confronting the dangers of this rugged new world, they struggle to form a tentative community. But they're haunted by their past and uncertain about the future. To survive, they must learn to trust - and even love - again.

Thoughts on The Pilot: What happens when you mix Lord of the Fly's, Future Tech, and a great story....... A Better version of After Earth (LOL). What you get is the new CW show The 100. I never saw a preview or heard of the show and was entertained till the end of the episode. The series is based on a book of the same name, the first in a series by Kass Morgan, and developed by Jason Rothenberg. The story starts fast and keeps going. 100 young teens drop on a planet and left to their own devices... you know where this is going. This might become a viewer favorite. The 100 airs January 1 2014.

X-men Days of Future Past- First look at the Sentinels

Hey Otakus and Geeks fans, here is a first look at Sentinels head from X-men Days of Future Past. The Head was unveil at San Diego Comic Con at a display for Trask  Industries. Fans at the Con got a chance to get an up-close look at what the mutant hunting robot will look like.

While Comic-Con is littered with great panels, merchandise and first looks at footage, the convention also plays host to a number of more subtle teases for upcoming genre properties.  It’s pretty much a given that one of Fox’s “mystery” films poised to appear during the studio’s Hall H panel on Saturday will be X-men: Days Of Future Past.

The villainous Trask will be played by Peter Dinklage in the film, we will post more info on the film as it becomes available, for now check out the pics below of the Sentinels head and fans at the con.

Let us know what you think of the Sentinel's Head and overall how you think X-men: Days Of Future Past will be.

Who's Hotter 2 Broke Girls Cast Comparison

Hey Otakus and Geeks fans, it's time for another segment of Who's Hotter! This time we are going to compare Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings ( Caroline and Max ) from the CBS series 2 Broke Girls. I have to admit both ladies are smoking hot, so this was a very tough choice. Ok before I make my choice here is a Bio on both Actresses:

Beth Behrs: She studied drama both at high school and at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, appearing in a number of plays before enrolling to study drama at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television in Los Angeles.

A few one-off parts on high profile US TV shows led to her breakthrough role as Caroline Channing in "2 Broke Girls" (2011).

Kat Dennings:  Kat was predominantly home-schooled, graduating at the age of 14. Her family subsequently moved to Los Angeles, California to support Kat acting full-time. After work doing commercials, she began work in television, starting with a role on HBO's "Sex and the City" (1998), following up with roles on "Raising Dad" (2001), The Scream Team (2002) (TV), "Everwood" (2002), "Without a Trace" (2002) and "ER" (1994), among others.

Kat made the move to the big screen with supporting roles in Raise Your Voice (2004), The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005) and Big Momma's House 2 (2006). She later achieved a level of fame with roles in The House Bunny (2008) and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008). Kat continues to act in feature films and is an avid video blogger.

Ok this was tough, but I'm going to have to go with my favorite Kat Dennings. So again Guys and Girls I'm going to show some sexy picks and let you the fans decide on Who's Hotter! Comment below about your choice.

Beth Behrs

Ghost in the Shell Arise Design Cast and Trailer

Ghost in the Shell Arise’s new trailer joins news that not only will the OVA be getting entirely new character designs, but also an entirely new voice cast, in what is proving an exceptionally controversial new direction for the series.

The preview:

As or more controversial than the new character designs is the fact that Motoko will now be voiced by Maaya Sakamoto, who perhaps not coincidentally also voiced child Makoto in SAC and Deunan in Appleseed XIII, rather than Atsuko Tanaka, who voiced her all the other Ghost in the Shell anime.
Along with Motoko, Aramaki (now voiced by Ikyu Juku), Togusa (Tarusuke Shingaki), Batou (Kenichiro Matsuda) and every other member of the cast also sees a new voice actor, for what is clearly intended to be a clean break with the previous incarnations of the franchise.
A new 2027 setting and storyline (yet again involving viruses) round out what has been described as a Motoko “origins” style story with her still with army intelligence prior to her Section 9 career.
Aside from the new character designs and seiyuu changes, plenty of other information about the new project has just emerged – it will be comprised of 4 50 minute parts, with the first – “Ghost Pain” – to see limited theatrical release and then an OVA BD/DVD release in June and July.
A manga edition of the new production is also due to begin serialisation in March, in the pages of Monthly Young Magazine.

Masamune Shirow himself has acknowledged the new iteration of the series takes things in a new direction:
2029AD. Togusa would be 29, so in the world of Ghost in the Shell, today in 2013 he would be in middle school. What would he be doing now, and would he already have resolved to become a detective?
[In the 24 years since the original manga's debut] the world has changed a lot – especially computers and networks, with many people now carrying and using high powered mobile terminals at all times.
The original manga is now quite old, and I think it must be quite challenging to adapt, but I’m really looking forward to seeing viewers enjoy whatever new Ghost in the Shell Kise and the new staff produce.
And please, afterwards don’t start saying “this was all a fake memory and none of the anime adaptations were real,” OK?
Shirow Masamune
His concern over what fans will make of all this is perhaps understandable – the fan response so far has been distinctly negative.

CRYSTAL DYNAMICS AND DARK HORSE BRING LARA CROFT BACK TO COMIC BOOKS

CRYSTAL DYNAMICS AND DARK HORSE
BRING LARA CROFT BACK TO COMIC BOOKS STARTING WITH
TOMB RAIDER: THE BEGINNING
MILWAUKIE, OR, JANUARY 30 – Crystal Dynamics™, a Square Enix® studio, and Dark Horse Comics, today revealed they have partnered to bring the re-imagined Lara Croft back to print in the world of comics. Look for news on the new series following the release of TOMB RAIDER®, the highly anticipated origin story for Lara Croft®, available March 5, 2013, and will chronicle Lara’s journey after her harrowing adventure in the Dragon’s Triangle.

To kick off the partnership, Crystal Dynamics and Dark Horse have teamed up to create “TOMB RAIDER: The Beginning.” This will be the first installment in the new TOMB RAIDER comic book series, and is a prequel to the events in TOMB RAIDER. “TOMB RAIDER: The Beginning,” was written by lead game writer Rhianna Pratchett. Fans can get the first series early when they pre-order TOMB RAIDER at Best Buy.

A 48-page, six-part hardcover omnibus, “TOMB RAIDER: The Beginning” follows the story of how the crew came together for The Endurance's fateful mission to discover the lost Japanese kingdom of Yamatai. Originally intended to feature as the latest instalment of Dr. James Whitman's successful archaeology show, Whitman's World, the show-biz archaeologist gets more than he bargained for when he enlists the help of Captain Conrad Roth. As Roth's unique and eccentric crew gradually come together and share their stories and secrets, the expedition faces unexpected threats before it's even begun.

“Lara Croft is an icon across all forms of media, including comic books,” said Karl Stewart, global brand director for TOMB RAIDER and Crystal Dynamics. “The team at Crystal Dynamics has worked closely with Dark Horse on ‘The Beginning’ to bring the relatable, re-imagined Lara Croft back to the comic book world.”

"Whilst penning Lara’s origins story for the game I had lots of ideas about the world she and the other characters inhabited, and the story behind their voyage: as great to be able to flesh out the world of TOMB RAIDER and work with the talented team at Dark Horse to bring Lara Croft back to comics,” said Rhianna Pratchett, lead game writer for TOMB RAIDER.

"The bold new vision of the game demanded we bring an equally fresh approach to the comics," said Dave Marshall, editor at Dark Horse. “We’re excited for TOMB RAIDER fans to experience a new side of Lara Croft as they accompany her on the earliest parts of her first adventure.”

To celebrate the partnership, Crystal Dynamics and Dark Horse revealed four pages from “TOMB RAIDER: The Beginning.” The full comic is available as a bonus when you pre-order TOMB RAIDER at Best Buy. More news on Tomb Raider comics will be available in the coming months.
