URBANCE PILOT

Hey O&G fans, the creators of URBANCE have have released the pilot episode of the series. A few years ago we we ran an article on the creators of the anime and the project. Direction :Joël Dos Reis Viegas, Sébastien Larroudé Music : Plaid, The Tanuki Project, B.Ames, HK
Main voices: Ryan George, Vanessa Hasid, Ben Cardilli, Marie Nonnemacher. For those who haven't heard about this amazing anime here is a quick synopsis of the story:

In the crumbling inner city, sex kills. The urban landscape is split in two — men on one side, women on the other— opposing each other. COEVO seems to be the only hope: a government medical treatment developed to cure every single citizen except that those wearables haven't produced the expected results yet... Born among this lost generation of frustrated gangs, Kenzell and Lesya live each day as their last, defying anyone who stands in the way of their union. Like modern avatars of Romeo and Juliet, they will have to choose between love or their kind, Passion VS Reason, Deadly Eves VS Neo Blasterz... In their flamboyant relationship lies the premises of a revolution against the authorities, the vicious Mediators and their mysterious separatist laws. Rebels can change the world...

5 Supervillian Teams That Could Start The Next Phases Of The MCU

Hey O&G fans, Capt. America: Civil War will premiere in a couple weeks which means two years from now, we will be preparing for the Infinity Wars part 1. This will start the end of the first three phases of the MCU. That being said, what will be the next storyline? What will be the next big threat?

The Russo brothers have been quoited to have access to atleast sixty MCU characters, heroes and villains. With that many characters at their disposal, Marvel Studios could plan out some interesting stories after the Infinity Wars. Here are some suggestions of Super Villain teams that would make great stories for the next phases of the MCU.

5. Black Order

The Black Order (also known as the Cull Obsidian) are a group of alien villains that work for Thanos. They help Thanos conquer worlds where they demand tribute. Their first comic book appearance was in New Avengers Vol. 3. If Thonas is defeated at the end of the Infinity Wars, Marvel doesn't have to end his reign of terror there.  They could use this team of villains to exact a more sinister plot for revenge. The members of the Black Order are:  Black Dwarf, Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, and Supergiant.

4. Skrulls

Millions of years ago, the Celestials performed genetic experiments on the reptilian ancestors of the Skrulls, resulting in three branches of Skrulls that eventually warred with one another. The Deviant branch—possessing the innate ability to shapeshift. The Skrulls would be a great for the MCU........ if Marvel Studio owned the rights (Hint,Hint, make the deal Fox) Having the Skrulls in the MCU, we could see the Secret Invasion story come to the big screen. This could also give Marvel the ability to change the Avengers line-up and add new characters.

3. Masters of Evil

The original Masters of Evil (consisting of existing Marvel Comics supervillains Black Knight, Melter, and Radioactive Man) was gathered by former Nazi scientist Baron Heinrich Zemo. The team has had different members and leaders: Egghead's Masters of Evil, Doctor Octopus' Masters of Evil, and Pre-Thunderbolts Masters of Evil. This would give Marvel the ability to mix and match Villiains for the MCU. Let's consider that they start with (Characters that might be introduced in Capt. America civil War) Baron Zemo, Crossbones, and Klaw. Leading up to Infinity Wars, Marvel could plant the seeds of these guys being the next big threat.

2. Dark Avengers

In the aftermath of the Skrull Invasion, Norman Osborn became head of the Fifty-State Initiative, the Thunderbolts Initiative and S.H.I.E.L.D.. He disbanded all three with different results. S.H.I.E.L.D reformed into H.A.M.M.E.R. with Osborn as its Director, the Thunderbolts became a secret black-ops team for him and his Cabal and the Fifty State Initiative came under his control after its founder, Tony Stark,  was blamed for the Secret Invasion  and became a hunted fugitive. This would be one the best storylines and Super Villain team for the MCU because with Sony and Marvel working on Spiderman reboot and now that the characters can interact, it could open up a huge story. Since some of the actor like Robert Downey Jr might end their run, this would be a good way to have him still in the MCU, but only with cameo's and introduce new characters. This also leads into my Number 1 Super Villain Team.

1. The Cabal

The Cabal (a.k.a. The Dark Illuminati) was formed by Norman Osborn, a covert group set against the aims of the scattered Illuminati, made up of Namor of Atlantis, Emma Frost of the X-Men, Doctor Victor Von Doom of Latveria, Loki of Asgard, and the criminal known as the Hood. With all the movies leading up to the Infinity Wars, the theme has been some shadowy figure with a sinister plot..... why not continue! After all is said and done, the storyline about the Dark Avengers and Norman Osborn would be perfect. Every Tv, Streaming, and Movie could be affected by the backlash and start a new Story with new characters.

What do you think of our List? Did we miss any groups that would fit better? Let us know in the comments.

DEADPOOL Gets Second Ongoing Series

Deadpool is leading his second ongoing series as Marvel has greenlit the current miniseries Deadpool and the Mercs for Money as an ongoing beginning in July, according to ComicBook. In the new series, the the mercenary team will reportedly be "hunting radioactive villains." Longtime Deadpool writer Cullen Bunn will continue on the book, and be joined by artist Iban Coello

"I don't think we set out for the miniseries to act as a pilot episode. I mean, whenever you do a limited run, you hope the reaction will be strong enough to warrant a continuation, and that's what is happening here," said Bunn. "I don't want to be too cryptic, but this new series offered some unique challenges and opportunities that I just couldn't pass up. I really think this will be something very different than what you might expect. It's safe to say that the tone of this series is pretty different from the tone of the mini. I wish I could say more, but I think all will be made clear by the end of the first arc.

The solicitation for the first issue of the ongoing title is as follows:

DEADPOOL & THE MERCS FOR MONEY #1
CULLEN BUNN (W) • IBAN COELLO (A)
Cover by Iban Coello
VARIANT COVER BY GIUSEPPE CAMUNCOLI
ACTION FIGURE VARIANT COVER BY JOHN TYLER CHRISTOPHER
YOUNG VARIANT COVER BY SKOTTIE YOUNG
HIP-HOP VARIANT COVER BY TBA
BLANK VARIANT COVER ALSO AVAILABLE

Deadpool is one of the best mercenaries on the planet. He may even be a passable Avenger—jury’s still out. But one thing’s for sure—Deadpool is a terrible team leader. Think we’re lying? Ask the Mercs for Money! Deadpool’s taken on a new high-paying mission to take out radioactive super villains...and his Mercs aren’t nearly as immune to radiation as his healing-factored heinie is. Deadpool veteran Cullen Bunn brings us mo’ mercs, mo’ money and naturally, mo’ problems.

Hardcore Henry Review (The Fathom fan Experience)

Hey O&G fans, Thursday April 7th we were invited to Fathom Hardcore Henry Fan experience to see a early showing of the movie. The Fan experience featured a Q&A with the writer/Director and star of the film. Fans were also given a prequel comicabout the main villain of the movie. As always here is a synopsis of the film:

Hardcore Henry is a first-person action film from the eyes of Henry, who's resurrected from death with no memory. He must discover his identity and save his wife from a warlord with a plan to bio-engineer soldiers.

REVIEW

First I want to say in my opinion this film, that is a little over an hour and thirty mins was pretty awesome. I'm a fan of FPS games so this was something I would enjoy. Hardcore Henry was shot almost entirely with Gopro camera's (Which the director explained during the Q&A that the camera's are mounted just under the nose and not the forehead for an accurate view). Anyone who saw director Ilya Naishuller youtube short Bad Mother F%$ker will recognize a few of the scenes and characters in the movie.

The Russian-made action flick, mimics the experience of watching someone else play afirst-person shooter with sub-Duke Nukem humor. The title character, played by a team of stuntmen, is an amnesiac super-soldier who wakes up in an airship above Moscow and plummets into the city below in an escape pod so he can rescue his scientist wife, Estelle (Haley Bennett), from the clutches of telekinetic albino Akan (Danila Kozlovsky).

The action was good and pretty brutal (especially the last fight scene). Henry dispatches with his enemies with a number of weapons from Knives, Guns, Bricks, Sticks, etc... so the killings get very creative. The story didn't lag (C.O.D Joke) and had a cute song/Dance number whileone of the characters explains his Avatars. One of my two problem with the movie is the shaky camera at times, which can make you a bit dizzy if you're not used to it. You also start to lose the point of the story a few times, but it will all make sense when you get to the end.

Overall Hardcore Henry is a good movie that might not be everyone. The action is great and will appeal to anyone into FPS. My final review of Hardcore Henry is 3 stars.

Marvel reveals Dead No More

Hey O&G fans, Marvel revealed a two part teaser for the Dead No More Spiderman Event this fall, which was revealed at a retailers only event during C2E2. Details are scarce as to exactly what "Dead No More" will be, though the preview art shows Spider-Man fending off some kind of tentacles - possibly those of Doc Ock? - while long dead figures from his past such as Jean DeWolff, George Stacy, and even Uncle Ben gather behind him.

Doc Ock's mind was recently revealed to be alive in the robotic body of the Living Brain, after being transferred there from Peter Parker's body, which he took over when his own aging body died. Ock operated for almost a year as the "Superior Spider-Man" before being switched back.

Interview with Jeremy Haun & Jason Hurley (Creators of The Beauty)

Interviewed by Justin D Williams

I had the great pleasure of chatting with Jeremy Haun and Jason Hurley the two guys behind the comic The Beauty. The Beauty is one of my favorite comics on the Image Comics roster this year. I sat down with the guys to talk about the process of the comic, the theme and more.

Otakus and Geeks: The concept of The Beauty follows a world where people actually want to get this particular STD called Beauty. This STD allows people outward appearance to be “beautiful” in the eyes of others. How did that concept and story come about?

HAUN: Every creator has a list of stories they want to tell. The Beauty started out as one sentence on that list. “The Beauty-- an STD that makes you beautiful.” I had other projects that were further along. Hell, a couple of things were fully plotted and even partially scripted. That one sentence haunted me, though.

Hurley and I have spent years hanging out together and talking about those stories on our lists. On a four hour car ride back from a little convention in St. Louis, I ran the concept for The Beauty by him. We ended up talking about it all the way home. By the time we pulled in to Joplin, we had most of the first arc figured out. The Beauty went from one sentence on my list of stories to a book that we were going to do together come hell or high water.

Otakus and Geeks: What would you say were some of the biggest challenges in creating this comic?

HURLEY: I had made a couple mini comics, and worked on some smaller projects before this, but The Beauty is my first major comic work. While I’ve been involved in the comics industry for years, it’s almost exclusively been on the retail side of things. It was interesting trying to make the transition to a creative role, while still running a comic shop and putting in 60-70 hours a week there. I guess the biggest challenge was just finding time to do the thing and meet deadlines.

HAUN: My biggest challenge was getting Hurley to realize how absolutely badass he actually is.

Otakus and Geeks: One thing I really enjoyed about the book is how willing some people were to get this STD. However there is also some characters that say things like yes it makes you look and feel beautiful but it’s still an STD. The division between those against Beauty and those who are for it drawn throughout the book. What was it like to use something as serious as an STD to explain your narrative and theme?

HURLEY: The idea of a disease, something we automatically think of as bad thing, being desirable is what really drew me into the project. Taking a thing like an STD, something that no one in their right mind should want, and making it the hottest fad ever creates a dichotomy that I find very appealing. It gave us a very clear line to define two opposing groups in the narrative, and easily drove the conflict between them.

Otakus and Geeks: Without any spoilers do you have a favorite moment from Volume 1?

HURLEY: I was really proud of several of the “cold opens” that we created. The short 2 or 3 page scenes that opened each issue and featured a person infected with The Beauty meeting their end. My favorite of those is probably the one from issue six, the misdirection works well, and I think it really illustrates how far reaching collateral damage from a Beauty’s death could be.

HAUN: For as crazy as things get, my favorite moments in the book were always the conversations between Foster and Vaughn. Their friendship is equal parts police work and ball busting. I absolutely love it.

Otakus and Geeks: Which character would you say is your favorite or that you can relate to the most?

HURLEY: Vaughn. She’s definitely my favorite character in this arc. Who do I relate to most though…? Probably Captain Siuntres. He’s just kind of overwhelmed by everything that’s going on around him, and his immediate response is drinking whiskey in the middle of the day.

HAUN: I have to go with Vaughn here too. There were a few times where we had to force ourselves to not give her ALL of the good lines and action. She’s a hell of a lot of fun to write. I’ve got to say that a character that really surprised me was Brandon. She started out as one thing and really grew into one of the strongest characters in the book. My only regret with the character is that we decided to do this thing where she didn’t use contractions. To be honest, it was an “in joke”-- us poking fun at a friend. Nothing is harder than writing one of the leads in a story and not being able to have them speak using contractions.

As for who I relate to most...it’d have to be Delante. He gets shit done.

Otakus and Geeks: As a writer or an artist can tell us what a typical day working on the comic was like?

HAUN: My schedule is kind of ridiculous. Like...really ridiculous. I wake up around noon, stumble my way downstairs for a bit of coffee and something to eat. From there I head out to the studio-- it’s the converted carriage house behind my house, so it’s not much of a commute. I take care of emails and social media stuff from 12:15-1:00 and then get to work on drawing. I try and prep as much as possible before I pick up my kids from school at 3:00. After I pick up the boys, we hang out and play video games and/or build Lego for an hour or so. I send them off to do chores and homework and I try and get another hour or two in. Around 5:30 I head inside for dinner and family time. If I can, I sneak in a post dinner nap and then I’m back to work around 9:00pm. My “actual” work time typically goes from around 9:00pm to 4:00 or 5:00am.

We adjust that schedule a bit, and Hurley and I write together Monday and Wednesday evenings. ...well...unless we’re on a deadline and then we just write constantly until it’s done.

Otakus and Geeks: What can we expect in the next installment?

HAUN: The next arc is going to be a bit different from the first arc. We always planned to jump around a bit and tell different stories along the way. Think of it as expanding on the opening sequences from the first arc. We’re going to show different people from different walks of life and how The Beauty affects their lives. You’ll find characters from one arc weaving in and out of later arcs-- learning about the bigger picture along the way.

The second arc is more of a crime story and starts about a year and a half before the first one. It’s a real change of pace. I’m crazy excited about it.

From there we’ll be back to Foster and Vaughn for the third arc and see how The Beauty task force started. We can’t stay away from those two for very long.

Otakus and Geeks: What do you hope audiences will take away from The Beauty?

HURLEY: There are a lot of heavy social and political themes in the book, and I want people to think about things like vanity, obsession, and corruption, and how they affect our lives as they read The Beauty. Mostly though, I just hope we put together an exciting, tense thriller for readers to get lost in for a little while.

Otakus and Geeks: How can readers follow you? Do you have a social media account?

HURLEY: You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as jasonahurley.

HAUN: I’m on Twitter and Instagram as jerhaun and you can find me on Facebook under my full name, Jeremy Haun. I post a lot of pictures of my artwork, what I’m eating, shots of my various travels, and Lego--lots and lots of Lego. You can also find me over on my website/online store www.jeremyhaun.com.

HURLEY: We have an e-mail account set up at thebeautycomic@gmail.com. We’ll be doing a letter column in upcoming issues, and we’d love to see any feedback our readers have on the book.
