Sparkle Pals™ - Luke Skywalker & R2D2 ™ Review
/By Justin D Williams
When Diamond Art Club brought out their officially sanctioned Star Wars Sparkle Pals line, Star Wars fans everywhere had something to smile about. And among these great additions is Luke Skywalker himself, presented in pint-sized chibi style and finished with dazzling brilliance. As a dyed-in-the-wool *Star Wars* enthusiast and diamond art collector, I couldn't help but treat myself to this little Jedi—and what a thoroughly fun experience it was.
The kit itself arrives neatly packaged—small, tidy, and ready to impress long before the first diamond is added. Luke might be only some 5.6 inches tall and 2.4 inches wide, but what he lacks in height he makes up for in personality, pizzazz, and glitz. This is no giant wall project—it's a small, hospitable display ideal for beginners, busy crafters, or anybody looking for a fix of triumph.
Inside the box are all of the materials needed to bring our young Jedi to life:
Round resin drills (and specialty AB, iridescent, and fairy dust diamonds)
A trimmed soft-adhesive canvas in the same shape as Luke
A multi-placer twist-and-pick pen
Wax and tray
Pre-sorted resealable baggies
A wooden display stand
True to the standards of Diamond Art Club, the quality here is superb. The canvas is rigid but easy-going, retaining drills snugly yet soft enough to correct errors when there are some. Every symbol is well-printed—even on so small a surface, which made the entire process convenient and easy on the eyes.
But those minute drills are what really work their magic. The shimmer of the aurora borealis diamonds on Luke's robes and lightsaber is simply flat-out beautiful. The way they pick up and move in light gives the piece a near-magical quality—that is subtle but irrefutably grabbing. His blue lightsaber shines with that old-school sci-fi sheen, and his earth-toned robes gleam with an air of warmth.
Solving him out was actually the highlight. It took me about 3 hours but honestly it will take you most likely one hour, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I couldn't help but smile as I constructed each diamond carefully, seeing Luke come together piece by piece. There was no tension, no frustration—only a clear, easy-to-follow creative process that left me proud at the end. It's a short, highly rewarding build that doesn't take an entire weekend or heavy focus.
Once completed, Luke easily fits into the provided wooden stand, hobby now showpiece. It’s easy to put on and the size can go great on display on a counter, office desk or collecting room. His chibi look large head, small body, huge expressive eyes—is just too adorable, but still unmistakably Luke Skywalker. The color scheme recalls his retro A New Hope appearance: desert shades, sky blue, and that signature cyan sword.
If you’re a hobbyist, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Not just because it was simple, but because it was enjoyable. Assembling him was as much like building a small tribute to one of pop culture's greatest heroes as anything. Not every day do you get to feel in touch with your inner child through a craft piece, but this one did—all the excitement of opening the box, the sneaky happiness of putting each diamond onto the board, and the amazement at stepping back to watch the character come to life.
If you're a Star Wars buff, this kit is a no-brainer. And even if you're not familiar with the galaxy, you may find yourself being drawn to the Force—and the sparkle.
Sparkle Pals™ – Luke Skywalker™ is not just a craft, it's a little party of fandom, of imagination, of play. Share it, build it with a child, or set aside life's grand construction projects—the one Jedi who brings the fun in every sparkle.

Link to Sparkle Pals
Wait, friends, we’re not done yet. We also had the pleasure of getting R2D2 himself as well. When Diamond Art Club initially came out with their officially licensed Star Wars Sparkle Pals™ collection, the fans of the galaxy far, far away were presented with a new, sparkly method of commemorating their beloved characters. Among the pack, the Sparkle Pals™ – R2-D2™ kit is the most striking and surprising celebration of the geeks' favorite astromech droid.
Unpacking the R2-D2™ set, all was neatly and logically packaged. I was impressed right away by the amount of drills 765 total so this is one has bit more to do than the Luke or Spider-Man kits. The kit included a twist-and-pick multi-placer pen, green sorting tray for the drills, wax square, and pre-sorted resealable baggies that made it easy from beginning. There was also a wooden display stand included, so you could display the finished droid on its side when completed. The entire presentation felt premium and well thought out, which is something I’ve come to expect from Diamond Art Club
The canvas is approximately 5.6″ tall and 4.7″ wide, thus just a bit wider than Luke. As I worked each section into place, the blue and silver trim came to life. While Luke's sleeker design or Spider-Man's glorious red splat had been quicker to achieve, R2's design was more complex with smaller sections. This in-car design made the process slightly more technical but also rewarding as well. Seeing the metallic glaze form was entirely captivating.
What distinguished this kit—literally and figuratively—was the balance of accessibility and depth. It's still utterly accessible to new crafters, but the greater piece count and textured visual layering provide repeat Sparkle Pal enthusiasts something to ponder.
Where I'm Displaying Mine
R2-D2's compact but detailed finish makes it perfect for small display spaces. I’m currently debating between three ideal homes for mine:
My Star Wars shelf, right between my Grogu plush and a vintage Vader bobblehead.
My work desk, as a glittering companion during long writing sessions.
My bookshelf, nestled near a few Star Wars novels and graphic novels.
I just may go ahead and buy a second kit to place one at the office and one at home—He's that cute.
Final Rating: BUY IT!
If you’re new to diamond painting or already deep in the Sparkle Pals™ collection, the R2-D2™ kit is a must-have. It offers more sparkle, more pieces, and more fun than the Luke Skywalker™ and Spider-Man™ kits I’ve reviewed—without being overwhelming. It's a shining example of Diamond Art Club’s attention to quality and fan delight. And as any fan will tell you, R2-D2 deserves nothing less than a proper tribute.
Whether as a weekend project, present for a fellow enthusiast, or simply as a shiny desk buddy, this small droid does the trick.
