LumenTale: Memories of Trey Demo Impressions

By Justin D Williams

"LumenTale: Trey's Memories" is a coming indie monster-catching RPG that pulls its players into a lively, emotional world of adventure and intrigue. It is clear from the demo that this game has the potential to succeed with gamers who enjoy titles like Pokémon or Temtem.

The one thing you'll see first as a player is just how attractive the game is. The 2D-3D blended graphics provide you with a world that's rich in color and detail. From peaceful villages to forests so lush, every area feels friendly and alive. The animals and people, who are referred to as Animons, are animated with personality, though a few of the designs have been used before. Still, the world of the game is one you'll want to enter.

Gameplay-wise, "LumenTale" involves catching, raising, and fighting Animons. Characters achieve this with a rare machine known as a Holoken to capture the animals and use them for turn-based, strategic battles. Four creatures may be fought at a time in the battles, adding more complexity compared to most other games of this type. There are also additional features such as crafting and cooking, that generate a cozy atmosphere in the game and provide humorous ways of engaging with the world.

The game is a narrative of a boy named Trey who finds himself waking up without his memory. Around the world, he starts remembering fragments of his past and learning about a greater enigma. The demo teases extremely significant themes of emotion and identity. While there are some who may find the discussion too slow or tedious at times, overall the story is interesting and makes you want to read more.

Sound and music also play a massive role in the atmosphere. Music in every scene is perfectly there, even if the songs themselves are not really memorable. The mellow and adventurous feel does succeed in constructing the emotional world the game is trying to construct.

On the whole, the “LumenTale” demo is proof that the game is packed with imagination and heart. The combat is fun, the world is gorgeous, and the story is emotional. Some very minor tweaks can be made, such as cutting back some of the dialogue or changing some of the creature design. But it's evident that the developers adore their game, and players are waiting for its complete release.

All in all, "LumenTale: Memories of Trey" has the potential to be a genuine page-turner in the monster-catching genre. If you have a taste for strategy, narrative, or simply messing around in pretty fantasy settings, this demo is worth looking at. If the devs keep buffing the game, it has the potential to become something amazing.
