Believe it or not, they’re all minted, silver coins from New Zealand Mint. While a good number are made in traditional coin shapes, there are quite a few in various other forms like comic books, chocolate bars and cards.
But they’re all legally coins (with a few exceptions).
Typically starting at 1oz in weight, they can get as heavy as 1kg (like their Star Wars Death Star) and can be delightfully detailed like the Willy Wonka chocolate bar. As a point of reference, the cost of these goods are roughly $100 US per oz.
These products are obviously for collectors who want something more than just silver or gold bars. So while retaining the base value of the metal, they also have something cool and collectible to look at too.
New Zealand Mint also have gold products in addition to silver. But we understand why they couldn’t bring them all to show us at Toy Fair. :-)
