NY Comic Con 2023 - Activities & Fun Things to Do

There were are lots of fun things to do at Comic Con besides buying your favorite merch or getting autographs. Here was some of them:

GUNPLA Model Building

Try your hand at putting together a Gundam model kit (GunPla). You get one for free and the staff is there to help you if you get stuck. Great for beginners who’ve never tried it. Come early in the day to pick up a ticket - they run out fast.

VIDEO GAME Tournaments

Sign up for tournaments throughout the 4 days of Comic Con, including favorites like Tekken, Mortal Kombat, King of Fighters, Street Fighter and oodles more. They have consoles set up for you to practice on with many people waiting to be challenged.

PIN Trading

There’s a fan group for NYC pin collectors/traders who have gatherings to trade pins. Their collections are pretty amazing, leaning mostly towards Mouse House (Disney) products. You can find them on Facebook.

TOKIDOKI - Meet the founder

Meet Simone Legno in person! This Comic Con, he sketches 50 lucky fans a Tokidoki picture of their choice. Pick up a ticket as soon as Javits opens for the day - they disappear fast.
My request was from his early digital designs (loved his work since Supaa Sushi Race).

SABER Training

A Jedi Knight needs proficiency with the light saber and The Force. Worry not Padawan, you’ll become familiar in no time - as long as you follow these guys’ instructions. You’ll notice them teaching real weapons concepts if you pay attention.

MINIATURE FIGURE Painting

Want a free miniature figure? It’s free if you want to paint one for yourself. It’s sponsored by Monument Hobbies - they sell paints and art supplies. They also run a Twitch stream every weekday about painting miniatures.

YU-GI-OH Personalized Token Print

Choose your card design, get your picture taken (at the green screen), and wait a few minutes while the Konami tech wizzes print you a personalized token. It’s a game (?) card with your picture on it!

COSPLAY Make-up

Some cosplays require a good make-up artist to help you look all bloodied or stitched up. If you need skills, these guys can help!
