Lord Marksman & Vanadis (Review)

After being taken captive by a female general from an enemy country, Count Tigrevurmud Vorn leaves his own lands completely open to attack. Unable to sit by and watch the destruction, Tigre must do what he can to convince his beautiful captor to join him in a fight to save his homeland. Using his skills as an archer and her otherworldly prowess as a War Maiden, the pair must work together if they hope to stand a chance against two warring nations and a rogue faction led by power hungry nobleman. Outgunned, outnumbered and branded as a traitor, the valiant Tigre will need to win the favor of the remaining War Maidens if he plans to come out on top in this action-packed adventure that blurs the line between fantasy and fan-service.

Lord Marksman & Vanadis is one fun fantasy anime show. What really will have audience addicted to the show is the characters and conflict on the show. I enjoyed the show from start to finish. The show is part action, part harem but comedy in certain areas. While how the harem is handed isn't nothing new under the sun it's done with flare and style that makes you forget it's cliches. The characters of Tigre and Elen and how they're reacting to this world and the war kept me interested. Throughout the show Tigre and Elen are at conflict with ideals, how things should be handed and Tigre has a little bit of a memory lost problem. Seeing these two characters on screen was a fun ride. The story is enjoyable, but has it's cliche harem moments that might turn some fans off.

The animation is uses the standard 2.5D animation that we're seeing in anime these days. While this show uses a lot of CGI it doesn't take away from the world. The background textures, use of color and facial animation is spot on especially with the women. The fan service while unnecessary at time is done in taste. Although their are some scenes that can be ruined due to the fan service. The voice acting is well done in the English dub viewing of the show.  Caitlin Glass plays Elen greatly. She has a commanding voice and a sense of present that dominates the screen when she is on. Joel McDonald as Tigre was also done well with this sense of nobility that was enjoyable to watch. Overall if you like a good story, good voice acting and some great action scenes. Check this one out.

Final Score 3 and Half Stars out of 5.
