Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Episode 2 Review

Tomoya asks Megumi out and gives her a lecture on how a perfect heroine should be like. He invites her to his home for an even more detailed lesson!

Episode 2 focus more on establishing Tomoya obsession of making the perfect dating sim game. This episode really shows how crazy Tomoya is when it comes to his goals. The episode didn't do much of forwarding character archs of Eriri and Utaha, instead we get the development of Megumi Kato the girl Tomoya sees as his perfect heroine for his game. I'm not that big of a fan of the Megumi character so far. She comes off as bland, not really interesting and her chemistry with Tomoya is out of sync. However I think that is the purpose of this episode. The whole episode Tomoya is trying to mold Megumi into the girl he sees in his game. Instead of trying to find out how Megumi is like on the personal level. Tomoya tells her what she needs to be and how to act. This leaves Megumi surprisingly accepting Tomoya for who he is. She doesn't seem him as a weird otaku that only dated 2D girls. She sees him as this guy who wants fulfill his dream. It was a nice way to get the audience behind her. Overall the episode didn't really do much to move the story forward. However it did established the arch of Tomoya and Megumi. The writing is once again a hit. The humor is on point. I love how the dialogue is flushed out like a written review and constantly breaking the fourth wall. The episode was good but not great I hope Eriri and Utaha get more things to do in the upcoming episodes.
