Interview With William Watterson (Voice Of Jim Peyton From Lost Planet 3)

We had a chat with William Watterson. William plays Jim Peyton the lead role in the upcoming Lost Planet 3 game and also did the motion capture work for the character. We chat about the process of filming motion capture, the character itself and voice acting.

OtakusandGeeks.com: How long have you been acting and when did you catch the acting bug?

William Watterson: It’s funny, I remember doing puppet shows for the family and going to drama camp as a kid and all the usual stuff, and loving it, and then it went away. Eventually I started performing again when I found rock ‘n’ roll in high school, and I stuck with that for years, until finally moving to LA. I didn’t even move here to act—I just missed performing, and wasn’t going to walk down the band road any more. I’d say I’ve been acting with a genuine professional focus for 7 years, but being in rock bands went a long way to helping me find my voice, my confidence, and whatever presence I have as a performer.

OtakusandGeeks.com: You also sing and play the instruments, what instrument do you play?

William Watterson: I blow bass, like Floyd in Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem. I also play some clawhammer banjo. Why not?

OtakusandGeeks.com: Your recent project is the anticipated Lost Planet 3. Can you tell us about the audition process and how you landed the job to play Jim Peyton?

William Watterson: There are a few websites where actors can submit themselves for consideration on (usually) smaller projects, and I put my hat in the ring for what was then just a demo for a game. I recorded myself doing an early version of the Jim monologue that started off the original E3 demo. I didn’t know it was Lost Planet, I didn’t know the scope of the project—it was all under a pseudonym. Spark hit the demo out of the park, and Capcom hired them to make the game, and eventually, after they did their due diligence looking at other guys for the lead, I got re-hired to reprise Peyton. So, a lot of luck and a lot of faith from the developers got me here. There was actually a time when the characters had much more of an anime vibe, some very cool designs, but they shifted their focus to photo realism, and fortunately for me, I looked somewhat similar to the character designs, so I got to keep the gig.

OtakusandGeeks.com: What can you tell us about the motion capture process of playing Jim Peyton? How was it like the first time you put on the suit?

William Watterson: I had worn the suit for literally months during the production of LA Noire, so it wasn’t new to me. The helmet cameras and the recording of live sound were new elements, but ultimately, it’s just another costume. A really weird costume that can be quite revealing, I’ll grant you that, but still just a costume. Anytime you put on gear that isn’t yours, it’s easy to convince yourself you aren’t you.

OtakusandGeeks.com: How long were you in the motion capture suit in terms of hours and months?

William Watterson: A typical day was between 10 and 12 hours, but that includes getting in the suit and having the dots painted on your face and getting synced up in the computer and all that. We broke it up a lot, it was usually 2 days here, 2 days a month later, 2 days a few weeks after that. I don’t know if that’s because the writing was changing as the game developed and we had to wait for the later chapters to come to life, or if it’s because everyone got sick of seeing my butt in the spandex pants.

OtakusandGeeks.com: How was the motion capture acting different from other forms of acting that you have done?

William Watterson: Once you get over the gear, it really wasn’t. It was very similar to green screen work or black box theater, where you have to rely on your imagination for the environment and set. We played out entire scenes with all the actors present, and had to get all our dialogue and blocking right because we were recording live sound and capturing each scene in its entirety. So really, it was more akin to theater, albeit with second and third chances to get it all perfect. In film and TV, scenes tend to be broken up a lot more and shot in pieces for an editor to assemble, and if you get each little piece right, you can move on, you don’t have to get the whole scene in each go. But we had to get through the entire scene for the guys and gals to manipulate after the fact. Which was always nerve-wracking if you had the very last line in the scene, because you couldn’t help thinking “man, I could totally blow this perfect take we’ve got going if I screw that up!”

OtakusandGeeks.com: What attracted you to Jim’s character and is there anything you can tell us about Jim’s character and what he will bring to Lost Planet 3?

William Watterson: Jim’s no action hero. He’s a working man who always tries to do right. His priorities are his family, providing for his family, and getting to see his family again. That’s it. When those priorities are threatened or challenged by the unusual discoveries he makes on E.D.N. III, that’s when you really find out what kind of man he is, what he’s capable of. That’s why the stakes are so high—he’s a family man thrust into the role of warrior and leader. And that creates a conflict within Jim that I’m not sure ever gets resolved. No spoilers, but on some level, there’s something profoundly tragic and heartbreaking about Jim’s story. Or maybe I’m just getting emotional because my journey with the game is finally coming to a close…

OtakusandGeeks.com: You are also the voice of Jim Peyton as well as his motion capture actor. Did you find it easier for you in the booth to perform the voice knowing the physicality you perform for the motion capture?

William Watterson: For sure. We found the relationships between the characters together on the stage, and we could take that with us into the booth. I knew what Jim looked like, how he walked, how he moved, what kind of swagger he had, what he thought of everybody, how everybody made him feel. It made the booth a much less lonely and clinical place.

OtakusandGeeks.com: How did you approach your voice performance Jim? Did you decide on which voice you will use?

William Watterson: It’s all in the writing—there was a line or two in the original audition piece that lent itself to a western twang, a folksy cynicism, and that’s where all the rest came from. Throw in a Han Solo shrug here, a Mal Reynolds cowboy barb there, and an Indiana Jones eye roll for good measure, and you’re on your way.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Since your latest project is a videogame. We have to ask do you play any videogames and if so what is your favorite genre?

William Watterson: I’m just getting into it now, mainly for the storytelling. The actual gameplay is still a challenge for me, I came up with the Atari (which I still own and play), and I’ve been left in the dust a bit since. But I love the idea of inhabiting a world and getting invested in its characters. And any chance to go on an adventure is a chance I’ll take. Uncharted 3 is first up. Then Last of Us or Bioshock Infinite, not sure which will come first. And I still have some LA Noire to play, even though I know what happens. It’ll be like hanging out with old friends, a little digital reunion.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Is there any gadgets or weapons in Lost Planet 3 that you would love to try out?

William Watterson: In real life? I could sure use me a grappling hook. I live in Downtown LA and I could swing from roof top pool to roof top barbeque to roof top pool all summer long.

Tales Of Xillia Review

Tales Of Xillia was released two years ago in Japan. Thanks to popular
demand the game has made its way over to the United States. Was this next installment in the Tales series worth the wait?

Story – The story takes place in a world called Rieze Maxia a world where humans are able to manifest the power of spirits and mana into a power source called the Spyrix. Due to the power and technology the Spyrix possess it drains the mana and kills the spirits. The great Spirit Maxwell that isolated this type of power source ages ago, returns in human as Milla Maxwell to put a stop to a new weapon called “The Lance Of Kresnik.”

Unlike many other Tales games Xillia is told through the perspective of two characters Jude and Milla. The games core story is unchanged but how the story is viewed is depending on which character you choose. This makes the storytelling a little more personal for each character as you see certain cutscenes and certain side quest will be only exclusive to that character. The story is not the best out of the Tales franchise but it’s one of the most addictive ones to playthrough. The characters of Jude and Milla work well for this universe, Milla being a spirit and human form trying to save the world and coming to terms what it means to be human, and Jude being a young man trying to find his identity and place into the world. Playing these two characters and watching them learn and grow from each other is a pleasure. However this wouldn’t be an RPG game without the supporting cast and Xillia has some pretty outstanding supporting cast. The supporting cast member that stands out the most is Alvin played by Matt Mercer. Alvin is a character that we have seen before in movies, anime and other forms of entertainment. However in Xillia he is the most unpredictable mercenary and character. His motives are unknown, he lives by his own rules and while playing the game you question whether he can be trusted or not. While playing this game I can tell you that I love this feeling on whether I can trust certain characters or not. Overall Xillia delivers the goods and a little more and if you want the full course meal you have to play it twice.

Gameplay – Xillia doesn’t stray away too far from the usual formula of hack and slash and magic artes. However Xillia takes what we are used too and expands onto it. Xillia uses a link system between two characters out of the four on the field. This link system adds strategic elements during battle. For example if Jude and Milla are link together one will find a weak spot on the enemy. Alvin will break the enemies barriers and etc. Depending on which character you will link with will depend on what give advantage you get on the enemy. Different characters work better or worst with an certain enemy type. Another great addition to the link system is the double team moves. When you are prompted or if your battle meter rises to the top. You can perform devastating double team attack with the character you are link with. The moves can be a single strike or a continuous hit if you press your buttons quick enough. The double team moves are essential during boss battles as the battles range from medium to very hard. The battles sometimes can be frustrating as the enemies will be able to cast multiple arts back to back which leaves an unfair advantage. That is on the only complaint about the battle system I had with the game. Overall the battle system is solid and the link system is a great addition.

The link system is not the only new addition to the Tales franchise. Xillia uses a different way to level up characters and have them learn they skills. Xillia introduces a system known as the Lilium Orb fans of Final Fantasy XIII will be familiar with this grid system. The Lilium Orb is a grid where you spend the points you earned after you level up to upgrade your strength, hp, tp, learn new attacks and many more. It’s a more strategic way to level up your characters as you will have to decide which abilities or attributes work best for your character. The Lilium Orb is a welcome addition to the franchise and I hope to see it in future installments of Tales games. Finally the game brings one more upgrade feature to the table. Xillia requires you to upgrade shops in order to get better supplies and weapons. This will be a hit or miss with some fans as you will usually sacrifice items picked up from battles or spend  money you earned from battles to upgrade them. The more you upgrade the shops the better materials, weapons and armor your characters will have. It’s another great element to the game that brings the already great upgrade system into much more depth.

Graphics – Xillia was released two years ago in Japan. The graphics by today’s standards will appear to be a little dated. However Tales Of Xillia looks great minus a few flaws of textures and some background hiccups the graphics hold up well. Even though the graphics aren't outstanding as Tales Of Vesperia or Graces it does hold up pretty well.

Sound – Xillia music is wonderful. Gone are the usually midi sounds that the franchise is known and in is the orchestrated compositions that is music to your ears. The voice acting is also well done. The show stealer is Matt Mercer (Leon from Resident Evil 6) his performance makes you wish that Alvin was the main character in the game.

Replay Value - Tales of Xillia offers tons of replay value from sidequest to another go a round seeing the game from the perspective of the character that you didn’t choose. The game will take you up to 30 hours without sidequest and with sidequest and hidden bosses maybe 20 more. This is an RPG that will occupy your time for a while.

Final Grade 8.5/B+: Tales Of Xillia does a lot right and brings new elements to the franchise. The story is solid with some compelling characters and a really great theme which I won’t spoil for you. The gameplay is great as it’s ever been and the addition of the Lilium Orb and upgrade shops is a welcome addition. This is an RPG that you must pick up and experience for yourself.

The Lolita of Otakon 2013

Remember we did a simple chat on our Girl's Night In podcast? One of the questions was what happens in Lolita communities. While I was able to answer the question, the Lolita activities that happened at Otakon are an even better example. Since the con is currently local to the Baltimore area, members of the local community (Charm City) was able to host a few meet-ups an panels.

Anime conventions are the best excuse ever for lolitas to commune, especially since life happens and everyone's not a lifestyle (or daily) lolita. Among things hosted near Otakon were a swap meet, meet & greet meet-up and a Lolita rush at a candy shop ... It's SUGAR!

Getting down to business, the community hosted two Lolita panels. With two of the community's more active lolitas, Lolita 101- beginner, explained the basics and ABC's of Lolita. Lolita 102- intermediate got down to the science of shopping for Lolita.

Otakon 2013 Overview

So, we were able to make it to Otakon 2013! This was a first for Otakus and Geeks and boy was it AWESOME! The con, for it to be smaller than New York Comicon and some others, did prove to be more than a two person job. Registering, we were really excited to hear that we have been hooked up with some simple con swag to help make our jobs a tad bit easier! And I do mean ... only a TAD!

If you are not familiar with the anime and comic book conventions in the Baltimore area, let's share what Otakon is all about.

Otakon is the convention of the otaku generation
Ever since 1999, we've taken over a sizable chunk of Baltimore's Inner Harbor for a 3-day festival celebrating the pop culture that's brought us everything fromAstroboy to Yu-Gi-Oh, from Seven Samurai to Spirited Away.
Join thousands of your fellow fans as we descend on Baltimore to celebrate music, anime, manga, and all other facets of Asian pop culture!

OVERALL
Overall, the con was pretty a enjoyable experience. Though this experience is not the fullest that Otakon has provided. The con-goers made this year's Otakon into a great festival with a lot of beautiful cosplay and J-fashion. The staffers did an awesome job making you feel welcomed and answering any questions that you may have. Navigation through the convention was a little tricky sometimes, but that is due to venue's set-up, not the convention's. Aside from that, it was easy-peasy smooth sailing.

AN INTERACTIVE CON
Thursday, to open the con, was an Anime Matsuri, in which you could come in your best J-fashion or cosplay and commune with others before being swept away by a full weekend of photo-shoots, panels, and shopping. Some special touches to Otakon that set it apart from other cons were fan produced video screenings and the Ota-museum. These among other things, make the con more interactive with its fans and followers.

The fan-produced video screenings gave fans a chance to have their voices heard and creativity seen, on a larger scale. Imagine having your fan film screened by over 34,000 people! That's way better than being Tumblr famous, in my opinion. If you missed out this year but interested, there is always 2014. Be sure to check out their submission guidelines from this year to give you a running start.

The Ota-Museum is a nice and personal touch to the convention. It is a great crash course of the history of Otakon over the years. I would definitely recommend this as a "must see" for first time con-goers, especially first time Otakon con-goers. There was even a Newbies Guide available with tips to surviving Otakon.

RATING
All-in-all, I would give this Otakon 2013 presentation a solid 3.5 (out of 5) since programming and guest selection could have been a bit better. However, Otakon is in a major transition- adding Otakon Las Vegas and soon relocating from Baltimore to DC- so it is forgiveable. If you have never been and willing to travel or local to the Baltimore area, Otakon is a highly suggested con to attend. There is definitely something for everyone!

Nickelodeon has released the first of three video shorts, which give fans a glimpse at Mako and Bolin’s childhood. Citizen Jia Li Review

Citizen Jia Li is an independent film written and directed by Sky Crompton. The story centers around a girl named Jia Li an Asian girl trying to make it in Australia. Does this drama hit the mark or should you give this citizen a pass?

Story - When Jia loses both her job and home in the one day, nothing is what she expected as a new citizen. Over three days she will struggle against fears and enemies to find her true identity, supported by Daisy a half Chinese half Japanese Harajuku girl, who is coming to terms with her own mixed parentage. Pursued meanwhile by Kong Jia's triad ex, who searches Melbourne to force her back, to save face with the triad, and maybe for love. The story overall is pretty decent. The story can be viewed as a fish out of water type of story. Jia is an Asian girl living in a country away from her culture, her family and is trying to adapt to the world that is Australia. She is working there to try to raise money to get her family to move there to live with her. However is she fired from her job as a hairdresser, she is put in a situation on how she is going to survive. This premise for the most part works as we see Jia struggle with unemployment and trying to find a job to make ends meet. When the story is focused on Jia it works very well. Her character was interesting to watch as you can connect and get emotionally invested with her situation. However while the central story of Jia works well, the stories of the supporting cast don’t really hold up to great. During her struggle Jia is being pursued by an ex boyfriend and member of the triad’s Kong who wants Jia back in his life. His backstory, the relationship with Jia is not really explored or flushed out completely for you to care about him. He just comes off as a creepy stalker with no real motives, or reason on why he wants Jia Li back. There are a few scenes that give you a little backstory on the relationship however it’s not enough for you to be invested in them.

Another character that wasn’t flushed out completely is Jia’s former co-worker Daisy. Daisy is probably the most interested character that you will wish had more screen time. Daisy is coming to terms with her being mixed with Chinese and Japanese and the confusion of her identity. She is also a Harajuku girl which a unique taste of fashion but none of these issues are raised or explored. Overall the story has its hits and misses. The story of Jia Li and her struggles of being a fish out of water works. Jia Li is a character the audience will connect with and related too. However the character’s of Daisy and Kong are not explored enough to tie into the overall story completely.

Acting – The acting is enjoyable to watch. Chun Kee Claudia Teh is good as Jia Li her performance is believable and brings the struggles of Jia Li to life. Chris Pang as Jia Li’s ex boyfriend Kong does a solid job the screen time he had to work with. However the real show stealer is Susanna Qian who plays Daisy. Qian has the most challenging role to play since Daisy has no real dialogue and her emotions have to show through body language and facial expression. Qian does a great job playing Daisy and watching her makes you wanted you to know more about her.

Music & Film-making -The film looks great. Sky Crompton chooses his locations very well. It’s nice to see Australia viewed in the everyday life. The music has some mix of J-pop and classical and it works well for the film and the characters. Overall the film looks great.

Final Thoughts - Citizen Jia Li is an entertaining film that has a lot of potential but could’ve made its mark if the film was longer. Besides Jia you won’t really connect to the characters plights. The film looks great however and the music fits well with the characters and the world.

Otakon Moves To Washington DC In 2017

Otakon 2013 is wrapped up and has some news with some mix feelings for fans of the popular con. It has been announced that Otakon will be moving to Washington DC starting in 2017. The official press release statement can be read below.

While Baltimore has been our quirky and well-loved home for most of Otakon's existence, and despite our good relationships with the City of Baltimore and the local community, our contract with the city expires in 2016, and we were forced to decide whether to remain or to move. After a lengthy process of evaluating several candidate cities (including Baltimore), we ultimately selected the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

The primary driver for this move is the state of the facilities in Baltimore and their uncertain future. The Baltimore Convention Center has not aged gracefully and there are proposals to replace both the BCC and the Arena over the next five years. Any upgrades would require at least a temporary move and would result in disruptive changes in our facilities regardless of the final outcome. Of several alternatives considered, only Washington DC and Baltimore were considered viable, and both cities bid very competitively. Our focus has always been on delivering the best experience for our members at the best value to the organization. Both bids helped control costs in our largest expenses (facilities, tech, and labor), so we don't expect the move to be a major factor in our membership rates for the foreseeable future.

An evaluation committee delivered an analysis of the DC and Baltimore bids to the voting membership in June of 2013, and after considerable debate (and many expressions of regret) the voting members chose DC as the best option for our next contract period. Despite our long ties to Baltimore, we are energized and excited for the possibilities afforded by the facilities in DC. As with any move, there will be challenges and a bit of a learning curve, but we view this as an opportunity. And we look forward to seeing the results of Baltimore's planned reinvestment -- with luck, we'll face another tough choice in a few years.

Flashpoint Paradox vs Flashpoint Graphic Novel Comparison

Hey Otakus and Geeks fans, Today I'm going to do a comparison on the Flashpoint Paradox animated movie and The Flashpoint comic book story arch. The animated movie follow the story told in the comics and graphic novels almost to a T with a few differences. A review on the animated movie was done by Justin, so I decided to give a more detailed look from a comic fans perspective. I will be giving a brief background of the story from the Graphic Novels, The differences in the movie and comics, and the order to read the graphic novels in should you choose to pick them up. As always here is a brief synopsis of the story.

"Flashpoint" is a comic book crossover story arc published by DC Comics. Consisting of an eponymous core limited series and a number of tie-in titles, the storyline premiered in May 2011. The core miniseries series was written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kubert. In its conclusion, the series radically changes the status quo for DC Universe leading into the publisher's 2011 relaunch, The New 52.

Barry Allen wakes up to discover he is in an altered timeline in which Citizen Cold is Central City's greatest hero; his mother Nora (deceased in his own timeline) is alive; his father, Henry, died of a heart attack three years ago (instead of in prison); and that the Flash, the Justice League, and Superman do not exist. In Gotham City, Cyborg and Batman have a conference with a group of superheroes to discuss how the battle between Aquaman's Atlanteans and Wonder Woman's Amazons has caused massive death and destruction in Western Europe (sunk by the Atlanteans, except for the British Isles, which were conquered by the Amazons), with America similarly endangered. The heroes cannot cooperate to find a solution, and the meeting is disbanded. Barry Allen drives to the Batcave where Batman, who is revealed to be Thomas Wayne, attacks him — his son, Bruce, has died in his and his wife's place in this timeline.

Flashpoint Graphic Novels

First I'm going to talk about the Flashpoint Graphic Novels. Let's start with Flashpoint Batman ( everyone favorite DC Hero ) This by far was one of the best stories in the Flashpoint series. The changes that occur in this story are, Bruce dies instead of Thomas and Martha Wayne. This causes Thomas to become Batman ( Which they Never really explain ) and **** SPOILER ALERT**** Martha becomes the Joker.( This they do explain ) This was a great twist in the story that must have had most readers like " Holy mind F@%k Batman". This book talks about Thomas Wayne's fight against Gotham city's criminals and the struggle to keep his marriage and life together after Bruce's Death.

Next is Flashpoint Wonder Women In this novel, a young Diana and a young Arthur meet after Diana is caught by a baby Kraken. Diana and Arthur battle for her freedom and though successful, Diana needs medical attention which Arthur provides by taking her to Atlantis. Becoming friends fast ( and we all know what this leads to ) the two young heroes decide a royal wedding to unite their powerful kingdoms is the best for everyone involved. Their nuptials are thwarted by both Amazons and Atlanteans that oppose the marriage both secretly and not so secretly. In that opposition, Diana’s mother, Hippolyta, is killed.

Flashpoint Superman, imagine if the ship carrying superman as a baby landed where the government found him instead of Ma and Pa Kent? Well this Flashpoint story answers that. When Neil Sinclair volunteers to become " Subject Zero" ( yeah this is always a good idea ) and serves as the military lab rat as the conduct experiments on him, he knew he would become a powerful fighting machine. After the formula was perfected Neil becomes obsessed with his new found strength and was banished to solitary confinement. When Superman's ship crashed on earth the military found their ideal candidate to turn into the weapon they always wanted.

Finally Flashpoint Flash this novel focuses on the Reverse Flash Eobard Thawne aka Professor Zoom, Captain Cold, and how they are all tied together. In a flashback from Eobard Thawne, The Flash (Barry Allen), stands over him, he has been defeated, again. He remembers when he was going to be the Flash of the 25th century. He thought that everyone would love him, just like they loved Barry Allen, but no, they were frightened of him. He idolized Barry, wanted to be just like him. But for what he did, he could never forgive him, he is going to destroy his future. He traveled back to the day that Barry caught his first crook. No, he should go back further. To the day he first discovered that he had amazing abilities. No, further, to the day when he was struck by lightning. He wonders, what would happen if the beakers never fell on to him, what if the bolt never hit him.

There are 8 books, but the four I mention are the best stories in the series.

MOVIE vs THE COMIC

There are some differences between the movie and the comics that might leave some people confused. Some are minor and nothing worth mentioning ( Just read the Novels ). Others were things I think the movie should have gone into more details.

Ok first let's start with the scene where Bruce Wayne is killed and Thomas and Martha Wayne survive the attack from the gun man. In the movies Martha is holding Bruce's body and crying, after Thomas finishes beating the crook, he goes over to them and Martha takes her bloody hand and puts it over her mouth, then starts to laugh. This is confusing to anyone who hasn't read the comics because they have no idea what it means. This is the point where she goes mad and becomes the Joker.

In the comics it wasn't that simple. I understand the movie can only do so much, but this is a big part of the Flashpoint story for Batman. Martha's transformation takes some time. She goes into a deep depression and finally loses it when Thomas says " I miss that lovely smile you always had". Well he gets his wish, Martha cut her mouth open on both ends and shows Thomas her lovely smile again. This is when she becomes the Joker.

Next I want to talk about the doomsday weapon Aquaman created as way to end everything if he wasn't victorious in his campaign againts Wonder Women and the Amazons. In the movie they talk about Capt. Atom flying to Europe on a mission to try and end the war and he goes missing. Later you find out he was captured by Aquaman and is now being used in a device as a bomb.

In the comics it wasn't Captain Atom, But Terra's bother Brion. He is hooked to a machine that amplify s his powers. When Aquaman activates the weapon the drown the amazons in Europe, Terra feels her brothers powers being used and saves everyone from being drowned by creating a new Themyscira from the existing land around them almost killing herself to do it.

Now I want to talk about the meeting between Batman and Cyborg. This was also a scene I think was important that the movie kinda of downplayed. When Cyborg save YOYO after Batman throws her off the roof, he has a meeting to discuss him joining a group of heros that are going to try a Final assault on both Aquaman and Wonder Women to end the war. Cyborg tells Batman that the would be hero's would all agree to fight as long as he was in and agreed to plan the assault. When Batman refuses, Cyborg ends the meeting and report to his government superiors. So much more should have been added to this point in the story.

In The Comics, some of the hero's and villains only agreed to help if Batman was in. Cyborgs tries his best to convince him, but he still declines. This causes many who attended this meeting to back out and think of themselves. Also there are a few spy's at this meeting for both sides that you discover later in the Flashpiont comics. I only bring this up because the movie would have had a bigger fight scene at the end. Especially the part when Wonder Women kills Captain Thunder.
She didn't use her lasso to make him say Shazzam, Someone else did. I don't want to give too much away so read the books.

Flashpoint Comics and Graphic Novels in Reading Order

Flashpoint Trade Reading Order

* Flashpoint
* Flashpoint: Batman
* Flashpoint: Wonder Woman
* Flashpoint: Superman
* Flashpoint: Green Lantern
* Flashpoint: The Flash

Flashpoint's tie-in miniseries are the least connected to the main story than any other DC Comics crossover. It is entirely possible to read just the main Flashpoint miniseries and get a full story without reading the tie-ins; those tie-ins, however, flesh out major parts of the story and add much depth to the actions of the main characters; you'll see Wonder Woman and Aquaman differently.

The Top 10 Episodes Of "How I Met Your Mother"

"How I Met Your Mother" is one of my favorite shows. After eight long years on the air this year will be the beginning of the end for this beloved series. Season 9 is around the corner and Ted Mosby will finally meet his future bride to be. I wanted share my choices of what I think are the top ten episodes of "How I Met Your Mother." The choices are made based on comedy, emotional impact, story and character development. This article will contain spoilers so if you haven't seen all eight seasons I suggest you skip this for now.

Number 10: As Fast As She Can (Season 4: Episode 23)

This is one of my personal favorites on the list. In this episode Ted’s former fiancée Stella returns and tries to convince Ted to help her get back with the man she left Ted for. This episode has some really great commentary on how we handle situations when an ex returns. Ted handles this situation like a gentleman and instead of being bitter agrees to help Stella. This episode also has one of my favorite moments as Ted finally vents his frustration of not finding the one. On the comedy side of things this episode we see Barney trying to get his way out of a speeding ticket.

Number 9: Symphony Of Illumination (Season 7: Episode 12)

"Symphony Of Illumination" is probably one of the most emotional episodes in the entire series. This episode explores Robin feelings about having kids. When we are first introduced to Robin she is very adamant about not wanting kids because she is very career driven. This episode we find out that she is not capable physically of having kids which really changes her whole perspective on having kids. In this episode Robin is narrating the story in Barney’s apartment telling this episode to her imaginary kids. It’s a heartbreaking episode where we see Robin coming to terms that one option she can never had.

Number 8: Trilogy Time (Season 7: Episode 20)

Every three years Ted, Barney, Marshall gather together and watch the original Star Wars trilogy. While watching the trilogy the boys imagine what life would be like three years in the future. What made this episode great was the balance of outrageous what if scenarios and the serious tone of Ted giving up hope of not finding true love. The highlight moment of the episode is at the end where Ted brings a girl to the sacred Trilogy Time. This moment is touching and makes you smile for Ted.

Number 7: The Time Travelers (Season 8: Episode 20)

Time Travelers had some mix reviews and a very different concept from any other episode. In this episode we see Ted's emotion as the focal point of the episode, he's in the bar talking to his future self and it's later revealed that he's in the bar by himself the entire time. The highlight of this episode is Ted's speech to the mother which is a tear jerker.

Number 6: The Leap (Season 4: Episode 24)

"That was the year I was left at the altar. The year I was beat up by a crazy bartender. The year I got fired. The year I got beat up by a goat, a girl goat at that. And dammit, if it wasn't the best year of my life. Because if any of those things hadn't happened, I never would have ended up in what turned out to be the best job I ever had. But most importantly, I wouldn't have met your mother. Because, as you know, she was at that class. But that story is just beginning." This episode had one of Ted's defining moments as he comes to term that things are happening for a reason. Everything that has happen is building up to the moment he meets the mother. This episode also starts the path of Robin and Barney's relationship. Lilly gives a great speech about taking risk and the goat steals the episode with it's appearance.

Number 5: Slapsgiving (Season 3: Episode 9)

Ted and Robin still can't be around each other after they break up six months before. Marshall and Lilly host the groups first Thanksgiving together as a married a couple. Finally Barney is in for another slap that will happen anytime. The highlight of this episode is Barney and Marshall interaction. Marshall continues to taunt Barney that the slap is coming and when it finally happens it pays off well.

Number 4: Girls vs Suits (Season 5: Episode 12)

Barney has to decide whether to give up suits in order to bang a hot girl. Ted gets one step closer to meeting the mother and this episode has a musical number.

Number 3: Ted Mosby, Architect (Season 2: Episode 4)

Ted and Robin have they first fight and Barney tries to convince Ted that women love architects. Through out the course of the night Barney poses as Ted which leads him to a one night stand with one of the most legendary letters ever.

Number 2: The Naked Man (Season 4: Episode 9)
The Naked Man, where one takes advantage of a distraction in order to shed their clothing and surprise their date with nakedness in the hope of receiving sex by means of humor, pity or sheer spontaneity. This episode is hilarious as Barney and Ted try to reenact this move taught by Mitch who used it on Robin. There is also a cool Dark Knight reference at the end.

Number 1: Come On (Season 1: Episode 22)

This episode holds a special place for a lot of fans. This is the one where Ted finally gets Robin which sets up many storylines to come. We see the end of Marshall and Lilly relations in one of the most shocking moments in the early season. Finally Ted's rain dance is hilarious.

Tell us your top ten episodes in the comment section below.

The World's End Review

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright reunite once again for an all new action/comedy film entitled “The World’s End.” This is the final chapter in the Cornetto trilogy. Is this film just as good as the previous “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun Of The Dead”? Or is it really world’s end for the Cornetto trilogy?

Story - 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World's End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind's. Reaching The World's End is the least of their worries.

“The World’s End” story is simple, entertaining and most importantly very fun to watch. Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright have cleverly created a story that includes characters that you will be invested in, a world that is just as crazy and quirky as the characters and it all works well. The movie focal point is the character of Gary King played by Simon Pegg. Gary is what some people will call a boy trapped in a man’s body. Gary is immature has tons of issues that he has never come to terms with and he has a serious drinking problem. As the story unravels Gary’s layers peel more to reveal why and how he has become the way he is. It’s entertaining to see his character being the fish out of water. While everyone in his circle has grown up, gotten married and landed decent jobs. Gary is the only one still clinging onto the glory days of his youth. The way Gary's character is written makes for great interaction with his supporting cast, and a solid story among the other characters especially with the character Andrew played by Nick Frost. Gary and Andrew are yin and yang, positive and negative, but at the same time very much the same. While Andrew has progressed in his life and appears to be doing better than Gary, he also holds something from his past that he couldn't let go, this set ups for some hilarious and touching moments between the two during the robot invasion.

Overall the plot, story and characters work well. The inclusion of robots invading the town and replacing the townspeople with robot copies of themselves is not original, but it does a refreshing take on the concept that you seen in movies such as the Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Stepford Wives scenario. The robots inclusion also works well in terms of theme of the story which is freedom. Freedom is expressed throughout the film through Gary’s carefree eyes and the mission the robots are trying to accomplish which is taking freewill from humans, correcting their flaws and molding them into the image they see fit. This theme is mostly seen through the 3rd final act which will leave you satisfied and proud to be human.

Acting – The chemistry between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost is as good as it’s ever been. The chemistry just gets better over time. Watching the film you can tell that these two men enjoy working together and playing off each other. Simon Pegg’s delivery with his witty one liners and Nick Frost ability to use physical comedy and facial expression make it very fitting for fans to watch. The film also features familiar faces from previous Edgar Wright films and a special cameo that will make fans smile. The acting is great all around and you can see it through the chemistry of the actors.

Music & Filmmaking – The musical score is not really memorable, instead you do get some insert songs in the rock genre. In the filmmaking aspect the film looks great especially in the action scenes. The fights with the robots are hilarious especially with Nick Frost when he gives us a little reference to The Hulk with the chairs. The locations, sets and world all look amazing Wright really pays attention to detail in this one.

Final Thoughts – The World’s End is a fun summer flick, while not original in terms of plot and use of the robots, it’s a refreshing, fun and very entertaining to watch. Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg concluded the Cornello trilogy on a high note. Great chemistry, fun characters and cool robots. This is a summer film you should check out.

Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox Review

An alteration of the timeline for the superhero, The Flash, creates ripples that disastrously alters the Universe. The Flash must team with other heroes to restore the timeline while the Earth is ravaged by a war between Aquaman's Atlantis and Wonder Woman's.
