NYCC: Evil Dead Panel

Evil Dead Remake Panel

Hey Otakus and Geeks fans, Sean (The True Comic Fan) and I got a chance at this years Comic Con to attend the Evil Dead panel. Now I was only six when the original Sam Raimi film was first released, but a friend introduced me to it in my teens and I was hooked ever since.

Panel:
The Evil Dead panel was F*%#king Awesome!!! I mean I wanted to grab my Boom Stick and go fight some demons myself. The remake will be released on April 12, 2013 and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas and Elizabeth Blackmore.

In the Evil Dead remake the story centers on five twenty-something friends holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

In the beginning of the panel we were given a teaser picture (shown below from entertainment weekly) myself and fans thought this would be the only glimpse of the film we would get……..but wait……like opening that present you’ve been waiting for on Christmas, they gave us an exclusive look at the trailer. I can’t begin to describe how great the movie looks. The scenes are defiantly an upgrade from the original. All I’m really going to say is when the trailer drops, this will be the movie you’ll want to see.

Bruce Campbell was funny, charismatic and he kept everyone who attend the panel entertained the entire time. Producer Campbell added, "As middle-aged filmmakers now, we realized maybe it's just too late to strap on that chainsaw one more time." He went on, "The point is, it's time to give these people what they want - a new experience done with handsome young thespians covered in new buckets of blood, from a new director hand-picked by Sam Raimi himself."

The Legend Of Zelda Ocarinas From STLOcarina.com Review

One of the most iconic items in the Legend Of Zelda universe, besides the master sword or shield is Link's ocarina. If you love the Legend Of Zelda you might want to check out the ocarinas available from http://stlocarina.com/. I had the pleasure of getting two of them. I received the 12-Hole Zelda Tenor Ocarina and the 6 Hole Legend Of Zelda Potion Ocarina. After spending time with them I' am happy to report the ocarinas are awesome. Each ocarina comes with an instruction manual and song book. The song book is very helpful detailing where each finger should go to play the song. It also gives you detail instructions on how to start off your breathing method. Some songs that are included are Zelda's Lullaby, Ocarina Of Time, Epona's Song, Requiem Of Spirit and Song Of Time just to name a few. I found Ocarina Of Time the most challenging song to try. Great thing is even if you're still confused with the song book, you can always go to the STL Ocarina site and watch videos of others using the product.

The difficulty level ranges from easy to hard and that is depending on your musical ability. For beginners I would start off with the 6-Hole Ocarina since it will be more easier to perform songs. This way you will be able to learn, breathing techniques for high pitch songs and learn how to handle and hold the ocarina properly. Appearance wise the ocarinas are great replicas from the one's in the game. STL Ocarina did a great job of making the ocarinas authentic as possible including the shape of the ocarinas and the classic tri-force logo. The ocarinas are made of glaze ceramaic which means it's smooth like glass, so you might want to be careful giving it to small children. Finally the price is ranging from 70 to 100 dollars, which is not much more than you pay for a Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 game. I consider that an investment if you're a Zelda collector. This is a great gift for any fan of Zelda or for somebody looking to try something new.

Yuta has a problem. First, Rikka has told him that they’re officially dating, but she’s… a little bit delusional. There’s also the fact that he used to be a little delusional himself, one of the thousands of Japanese students afflicted with “Chunibyo”, so desperate to stand out that they’ve literally convinced themselves that they have secret knowledge and hidden powers. Unfortunately, that’s not the main part of Yuta's problem. No, the REAL problem is that, even though HE’s no longer delusional, and Rikka MIGHT have been getting better, his OTHER female “friend,” Satone, his one true soul mate, has ripped back into his life and she’s still epically and truly NUTS! “Crazy in love” gets a whole new meaning as three fantasy worlds collide in Chunibyo Demo Koi Ga Shitai!

Carrie - Official Teaser Trailer

Sony Pictures have released the new Carrie teaser trailer. I must say this looks like it will be a Carrie movie to remember. Now to make things clear this is not a remake of the 1976 film. This is an adaptation of the original Stephen King Novel. As a fan of this story I'm looking forward this one.

Hideout (Manga Review)

Title - Hideout
Author - Kakizaki Masasumi
Illustrator- Kakizaki Masasumi
Pages - 208

Story - It is a very dark night. Under a heavy rain, a determined man sets out to track his terrified victim. The decision of Kirishima Seiichi is clear: Tonight, he will kill his wife. A year ago, he was a happy man - a successful writer, a contented husband, and a father of a young boy... at that time, everything seemed going well for him. But such happiness had to end. The day his editor put an end to their collaboration, darkness seeped into his life faster than a bullet. A terrifying descent into hell commences, page by page of what it seems to be his last novel.

Hideout is one dark tale about a man's journey into insanity. Kakizaki Masasumi has written one hell of a Manga, that pulls you in emotionally and mentally from the very first page. What makes Hideout such a good read is the character of Kirishima Seiichi. Kirishima is a man down on his luck, he lost his book deal, his son is dead which he is responsible for, regardless how much he tries to deny it and his wife hates him for it. Naturally anyone experiencing something like this will feel pretty down, however Kirishima decides to start fresh and he would do this by killing his wife while on vacation with her. I'm not going to go into spoilers but let's just say things don't go as plan and they end up in a cave with a zombie like monster. In this cave Kirishima psyche really gets into gear, as he relives all the events that lead up to the attempted murder. This concept kept me interested, because it shows how much the pain of losing something precious can effect you if not handle properly or without some type of closer. Kakizaki Masasumi also stresses this theme with the use of the monster. A creature that is a reflection of Kirishima's heart and it when it comes time for the battle only one would come up on top. Overall the story is amazing and I love the layers of Kirishima that is peeled as each chapter progresses. The story is really dark, graphic and at the end makes you feel sorry for everyone involved. If you like a good horror story this one will keep you intense till the finale.

Art - The art is epic. Each facial expression is Seiichi is either sympathetic or bone chilling. His facial expression is what really makes the art epic. Kakizaki is really good with close up shots, and the violence in this Manga lives up to expectations. It's an art style that you have to see.

Final Grade A+/9.5 - Hideout is well written, well drawn and has a great character study on a man who has gone insane. The story is intense from start to finish and the art style will have you smiling in it's beauty. This is surely a winner.

The Candy Escape, The Art of Camilla D'Errico

Some of the best t things about NYCC, sometimes aren't physically at NYCC. Usually there are tons of parties, kick-offs, welcome & leaving events ... you get the point.

Tonight's goodness was time well spent celebrating the recent works and opening night of artist, Camilla D'Errico's Candy Escape. If you aren't familiar with her, check out my NYCC 2011 interviews with manager/ sister Ada'Pia D'Errico about Camilla's current (at that time) projects.

Not expecting a one on one with Camilla, we arrived at a crowded Cotton Candy Factory, gallery and shop owned by artist Tara McPherson. After a few "excuse me"s and being offered a cold PBR by a gallery employee turned bartender, I arrive at the wall that IS Camilla D'Errico. In awe, since I've been interweb stalking the work's progress online, I didn't even realize Camilla was next to me. Somehow we just kinda noticed each other and gave warm hug greetings and hello's. In a moment of congratulations, however, Camilla took time to give me a bit of insight to the pieces that are celebrated in the show's title "Candy Escape".

See. I met Camilla 2 years ago at New York Comicon and was a total fangirl. Somehow we got to talk art and kept in touch. Continuing with my fandom, I noticed the projects she was doing, but never saw a lot about gallery exhibits. Aside from it being none of my business, I also never gave it a second thought since all artists don't choose to show in galleries. In fact, though, Camilla explained that she hadn't done any since our initial meeting because it became to overwhelming so she took a break. Continuing on, she shared further that somehow in a break, she was inspired.

Artist, Camilla D'Errico                                    Fangirl: Imani K. Brown

The name "Candy Escape" is just that. She needed to escape and release. Welp folks, SCORE! These beautifully crafted ladies (drawn in black ink) start melting into colorful gooey goodness. Somehow the simplicity, color, and overall spirit of them all makes me want to join them in this escape.

Though a formal congratulations was given, I can't share ENOUGH! And once again, a HUGE CONGRATS to Camilla on such a brilliant (& SUPER kawaii) show!
Be sure to visit Camilla D'Errico for awesome updates and pricing

NYCC: HIP HOP CANDY & It Was ONLY Day One!

It's only day one t New York Comicon and I'm ready to snoop. I came with one thingn on my mind (aside from art, that is). Of course, that was finding Lolita & kawaii goods.

Unfortunately, this year wasn't the best and I had to look hard. And then I found Hip Hop Candy. This small, quaint, hobby turned lifestyle brand, was just what the doctor ordered to break the ice! I was able to score a quick interview with the hobby turned lifestyle brand, Olivia, to talk about what Hip Hop Candy is and what it had to offer.

INTERVIEW
Me: I usually don't stop to spend money during my first time on the floor, but it's soooooo cute! >< I can't wait to spend here, but first, can you tell us who you are and what you do.
HH Candy: Yes!!! I', Olivia and the propieter of Hip Hop Candy. It was a fun hobby and I started a small business of it in 2008. It combines Japanese fashion sense and kawaii style with super bright colors and is just stuff that I'd like to wear, personally. So far we've done ver well. In fact, we went full time this year and it's been pretty successful thus far *giggle*

Me: What are your top FOUR selling goods?
HH Candy: Well, I started making these lip balms after learning to make soap and doing some successful candles. (YES! most of what Hip Hop Candy offers is handmade. SUPER cool, hunh?!)
-There's this one, Vampire's Kiss that tastes like red raspberry and pomegranate.
-Our Debuneko plushie that we recently released. Hopefully we'll be doing more. I'm sure we will, but he's loved!
-People love the bunny butt! So almost anything with him is a best seller.
-And of course the bacon candle. I dunno ... people love  stuff that smells like bacon, i guess.

Me: You've worked hard and now living your dream. What tips would you give any dreamers?
HH Candy: I'd say that if you're really passionate about something and put out consistent goods and updates, you're probably going to succeed. So hop to it *giggle*

The interview and spending time (and money) at Hip Hop Candy was super fun. Olivia is such a doll! I'd encourage any and EVRYONE to support her efforts! Three cheers for HIP HOP CANDY!

Necomimi ... The HOT Item at NYCC

At least a year ago, I got a Facebook message from my bestie saying he wished he could buy me moving cat ears. Then, about 2 to 3 months ago, I previewed a J-Pop video that featured them.

Little did I know, silly silly Lolita, that things got REAL! and Necomimi was only seconds from making a splash in the States.

Of course, I get to NYCC and some of the first photos I snap are of the Maid Cafe with their ears all moving. I think "... Sweet! They're showing off the goods". But then evvvveryone has them on. I quickly realize that THIS is the hot item for this year's NYCC.

We got to visit one of the retailers and demo them. Check out the video of Dana as we're joshing around in Necomimis.

GLAY Concert Film Premiere Review

On Friday October 12th I had the pleasure of watching the GLAY: STADIUM LIVE 2012 THE SUITE ROOM in OSAKA NAGAI STADIUM film. The movie showcases the legendary J-Rock band in of there biggest concerts yet. The 3-hour film can be described in one word FUN! This movie is a must watch for any fan of GLAY or any fan of J-Rock period. It was pure entertainment from the opening sketches with GLAY blowing up the old GLAY hotel, to revealing a new one. The film also does a good job of showing the band in other forms of medium like acting. There is a sketch that involves the band in a nightclub and I won't spoil it but it's pretty funny. The concert featured some of your favorite songs from GLAY such as, Beautiful Dreamer, Winter Again, Glorious and many more. The concert itself was amazing, the stadium was huge, the props was on point and of course the performances was top notch.

For a three hour film the pacing is done very well. It doesn't get exhausting or make you wish the film was shorter. That is mainly due to the great performances, sketches and fan interaction. Once the movie starts it takes you in for a great ride. This is a must see film for those who love GLAY or someone looking for a good concert film.
