KILL SHAKESPEARE Returns to IDW with New Series, Celebrates with NYCC Stage Show Debut Friday, October 12, 2012

Award-winning Kill Shakespeare Returns to IDW with New Series, Celebrates with NYCC Stage Show

Toronto, Canada: IDW Publishing is proud to announce the return of the acclaimed comic series Kill Shakespeare to comic shelves.

The first issue of the new five-issue limited series, entitled The Tide of Blood, will hit comic shops across North America and Europe in February, 2013.

Series co-creators Anthony Del Col and Conor McCreery returned to pen the five issues and original artist Andy Belanger is back as the series artist (and also adds cover artist duties).  All three are at this week’s New York Comic Con to officially launch the new arc as well as present a special Live Stage Reading based on the first twelve issues of the series that the New York Times called: “gripping, violent, dark, fun.”

The five-issue series – a continuation from the first two books - will follow Hamlet, Juliet, Othello and Romeo as they face their biggest threat – Prospero, a rogue wizard who plans to destroy all of creation.  Hamlet must embark on a perilous journey to a remote island whose inhabitants have gone mad and want the Dane’s blood – if a love-triangle and Cupid’s poisoned bow doesn’t kill Hamlet first.

“It is a dream come true for us to be back at the New York Comic-Con, where we first pitched Kill Shakespeare to IDW almost four years ago,” says Del Col. “We are incredibly happy that our fans and readers have been asking for more and have put together a new story that takes our characters in an exciting new direction.”

To date, Kill Shakespeare has been collected into two trades: A Sea of Troubles and The Blast of War.  Both were nominated for numerous awards and lists and Volume 1 is entering a fifth printing.

"I had an awesome time working on the first two volumes of Kill Shakespeare," said series editor Tom Waltz.  "Tickling both my literary and action-adventure fancies, Conor, Anthony, and Andy have most definitely given me one of the most satisfying and unique experiences I've had as an editor at IDW Publishing.  And, just as the first go round proved it's hard to kill Shakespeare, well, it's hard to kill a fantastic story concept, too, and I truly believe the best is yet to come from the Kill Shakespeare crew!"

The series has also been brought to the stage with the creation of the Kill Shakespeare: Live Stage Reading theatrical show.  Featuring a unique mixture of comic art, radio-play-style drama, music, and audience interaction, it has played to packed audiences in various cities across North America and will receive its American comic convention debut at the New York Comic-Con on Saturday, October 13th at 11:00 AM on the Variant Stage. Special Kill Shakespeare and IDW prize packs will be given away to lucky attendees at this free show.

Kill Shakespeare is exhibiting at Booth #2280 all weekend at New York Comic-Con.

About the series:

Kill Shakespeare is an adventure story that pits all of Shakespeare’s greatest heroes (including Hamlet, Juliet, Falstaff, Othello, Puck) against the Bard’s most menacing villains (including Richard III, Lady Macbeth, Iago, Prospero) in a quest to track down and kill – or save – a reclusive wizard by the name of William Shakespeare. The series was nominated for a 2011 Harvey Award for Best New Comic Series the 2011 and 2012 Joe Shuster Awards for Comic Writing and has been selected to the YALSA and Maverick lists for top graphic novels for teens. The series has been covered by NPR, BBC, The Washington Post, CBC and The New York Times. In October 2011, Kill Shakespeare was chosen by the Sundance Institute as one of six projects for the inaugural New Frontiers Story Lab.

More information about the series can be found at www.killshakespeare.com.

2012 NYCC New-Gen Interview

New-Gen Interview

Hey Otakus and Geeks fan, Sean ( The True Comic Fan ). It's that time of year again and we are at 2012 New York Comic Con. Today we stopped by the New-Gen Booth to check out the new comics and what up coming projects they are working on. So Check out the video interview (with J2P Nice Guy) and pics from New-Gen Booth.

As always here is a little history about New-Gen:

NEW-GEN is a superhero comic book series created in 2008 by J.D. Matonti, Chris Matonti and Julia Coppola, of A.P.N.G Enterprises. It is printed, distributed and advertised by Marvel Comics. The series centers around the war over nanotechnology between two powerful scientists, Gabriel and Deadalus, from the extra-dimensional world of New-Gen.

New-Gen is an extra-dimensional world where science and technology reign supreme. Nanotechnology controls a huge amount of the world's features, including weather, architecture, energy and materials science. The scientist Gabriel, pioneer in nanotechnology, strives for good and the betterment of his world through the use of his technology. However, his apprentice Deadalus, grows ruthless and seeks to use the nanobots to gain power and control over New-Gen. Deadalus unleashes a powerful, unpredictable type of nanotechnology on the world, which infects several of the children of New-Gen, changing them into super powered creatures. Gabriel defeats Deadalus and banishes him to the underworld.

Gabriel then takes in all the children affected by his nanotechnology in order to protect and train them in the use of their powers, founding the Association for the Protection of the New Generation (A.P.N.G.) in the process. Fearing his infant twin sons, Chris and Sean, were affected, Gabriel sends them to Earth in present-day New York City to protect them from Deadalus, much to the dismay of his wife, Thea. While trapped in the underworld, Deadalus finds fierce robo- insectiod creatures called MetalMites that he can mentally control. After discovering that the Mites can dig into other dimensions, he vows to get back to NEW-GEN and get revenge on Gabriel.

Interview With Travel Channel Toy Hunter Jordan Hembrough

One thing I love growing up and still do till this day is toys. I had an opportunity to sit down with Jordan Hembrough of Travel Channel's show "Toy Hunter." We talk about toys, tips for toy collectors and of course Star Wars. You can catch Jordan and his adventures every Wednesday 10pm on the Travel Channel.

OtakusandGeeks.com: How did the show come about?

Jordan Hembrough: I was approach a year and a half ago by Sharp Entertainment in New York. These are like the wizards that brought you shows like Man vs Food, Call Of The Wild. They're really great with doing shows with great entertainment value. They approach me about a year and half ago about a concept of someone going around buying pop culture memorabilia toys. I went to interview with them on a Friday and by Tuesday I was signed on. We film the pilot and the pilot aired on January 15th of last year, we did very well and got green lit for a series. We started filming March and premiere in August and it's been great.

OtakusandGeeks.com: How do you determined the value of toy? How do you can tell which toy has higher value?

Jordan Hembrough: It's all about networking. It's all about talking to all my other dealer friends. We're all one big community, all the dealers talk to each other and share information. It's essentially keeping my ear to the grindstone, and trying to figure out which toys are selling for this amount whether it's higher or lower. Talking to people saying "you sold that for this amount can't believe it." We're always constantly sharing information with each other. I also check out internet sells that we have for a company, maybe go on past history of a product.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Is there one particular toy that you really want to find that you haven't found yet?

Jordan Hembrough: Right now I'm looking for a toy by the Nico Corporation. It's Aquaman vs The Great White Shark. It's a two pack and extremely rare. If I find it I'm paying 3,000 on it.

OtakusandGeeks.com: That's how much it cost?

Jordan Hembrough: That's how much I'm willing to pay for it.

OtakusandGeeks.com: How much do you think it's worth?

Jordan Hembrough: I've seen it go for 7,000.

OtakusandGeeks.com: What can we expect from this upcoming season of "Toy Hunter"?

Jordan Hembrough: You can expect more conventions, more live events like Comic Con. I'm going to try to go overseas, I've got some stuff overseas that I' am working on. A lot more of the same, more great toys that we grew up with, more collectors that love them.

OtakusandGeeks.com: As a collector what are some tips you can give other collectors? How can they tell whether the toy is worth buying?

Jordan Hembrough: What you want to do is you want to make sure the toys are in the box. When you look at the packaging of the boxes make sure it's in good condition. It sometimes can be difficult because some boxes are 20 years old. But you want to make sure there is no tearing, if it's not in the box look at the toy and make sure it's complete. Check to make sure if the stickers, weapons or accessories are all there. Anytime your missing a key component like that you're taking away from the value of the toy.

OtakusandGeeks.com: What was your favorite toy growing up?

Jordan Hembrough: Star Wars! I' am a huge Star Wars geek.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Favorite action figure past and present?

Jordan Hembrough: Past will have to be Star Wars. I love anything by Nico Corporation back in the 70's. Also the 8 inch and 7 inch figures with the cloth body and costumes from Nico. Current lines I like what Hasbro is doing with G.I. Joe and what they're doing with the Star Wars line.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Since we're out here at Comic Con are you hunting for any toys?

Jordan Hembrough: I'm actually in selling mode. I have a booth and all the great stuff you saw on the show I actually will be selling them. We're going to be selling a lot of vintage toys and a lot merchandise from The Muppets and more.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Since you're a Star Wars Geek and so am I who is your favorite character?

Jordan Hembrough: R2D2 believe it or not. I love R2D2 because he's a cool looking droid and has these cool tools. It's like anytime you need anything R2D2 is there.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Jedi or Sith?

Jordan Hembrough: Jedi all the way.

Interview With Pamela Horton (Playboy's Miss October 2012)

We got an exciting interview for you Otakus & Geeks readers. We had a chat with Pamela Horton a gamer and recently made Playboy's Miss October. We chat with Pamela about the shoot, gaming and her artistic side of painting and sculpting.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  First congratulations on your cover for Miss October 2012 for Playboy. Can you tell us how that came about?

Pamela Horton: I had been modeling since I was 18. About a year ago a submitting photographer sent me a message on Model Mayhem about submitting me for Cyber Girl. He sent in my pictures and his editor said they wanted to test me for playmate! That's how it started!

OtakusandGeeks.com:  How long you’ve been modeling and what inspired you to choose that career path?

Pamela Horton: I never really intended to be a model. It kind of just happened. A photographer saw me on MySpace and asked if I wanted to shoot. I was wary at first but he turned out to be one of the very best who taught me about the industry!

OtakusandGeeks.com: As a model who is into games and comic books. Have you ever cosplayed before and if you haven’t which character would you love to cosplay as?

Pamela Horton: I actually have Cosplayed! I went as Ayla from Chrono Trigger one year at A-Kon in Dallas. It was so much fun! I would really love to make a legit Samus suit!

OtakusandGeeks.com:  Aside from modeling you’re also into the arts. We understand you do some sculpting, painting and handcrafting. Can you tell us a little about that and how did you get into it?

Pamela Horton: Both of my parents are very creative and artistic so you would say its always been in my blood. I don't remember not being a creative/artistic person. :D

OtakusandGeeks.com: When painting or sculpting what is the thought process like? How do you decide on what you will create?  Is it just a feel of the moment or do you plan it out?

Pamela Horton: Usually music is my motivation. I have a vivid imagination so I hear a song and try to imagine the story it is telling. (Even instrumental songs.) it pops into my head and I can't stop drawing until its done.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  You also have some arts on Etsy.com. What products do you sell on there?

Pamela Horton: Right now I only have my Doodle Blob shirts up there. They are my original characters (copyrighted!) and each "blob" represents an idea. The two shirts say " gamers need love too" and "nerds need love too" with the blob signifying the characteristics of a gamer/nerd.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  You’ve mention in other interviews and in the magazine that you’re really into gaming. What was the first game that you remember playing?

Pamela Horton: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on the SNES! I knew how to save Princess Zelda and escort her to the cathedral before I could tie my shoes!

OtakusandGeeks.com: What is your favorite genre in gaming and favorite game? Also What games are you currently playing?

Pamela Horton: My favorite genre is RPG. Favorite game is a toss up between Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. I am currently playing League of Legends and WoW: Mists of Pandaria and Pokemon Black 2

OtakusandGeeks.com: You've been quoted saying ““I’m obsessed with MMOs!  I love being known as every gamer guy’s dream.” Bold statement can you elaborate on the gamer guy’s dream?

Pamela Horton: That statement was tailored to imply I am single. I enjoy being my gamer guys dream. My boyfriend is my motivation and my best friend and having this amazing person tell me I'm his dream girl is all I need.

OtakusandGeeks.com: The question most geeky boys are asking us to ask you. Do you date gamers, geeks etc?

Pamela Horton: They are the only guys I date! I'll take a gamer before I take a sports fanatic.

OtakusandGeeks.com: What’s up next for Pamela Horton?

Pamela Horton: Even I don't know for sure yet! I hope to start working in the video game industry soon though!

OtakusandGeeks: Finally how can your fans keep in touch with you?

Everyday Lolita ... in the Workplace

There's a ton of places where we an start with Lolita and this posting is kinda backwards. Or at least, it seems that for any readers who are just getting into Lolita. Don't worry though! Backwards and all, it'll all make sense. Take what you can and use it as you actively enter the world of a Lolita or as you transition into an Everyday Lolita. I think there's a bit of something here for everyone. And if not ... just holla and I'l be happy to make it happen! That being said, let's get busy!

So the all time question of "How can I wear Lolita to work" is a plausible one when you're not in a creative or expressive industry. In fact, most times, if you try and go all in initially, regardless of how super cute and well put together your coordinate is, it may still be frowned upon.

That being said, some tried and true tips to wearing Lolita in the workplace are these:

-Ease people into your fashion choice: Lolita, for unassuming people, can be a lot to take in .. you know, with all the ruffles and bows, oversized skirts and such. So be sure to gradually change your wardrobe a bit.

  1. Swap out your slacks for skirts with a low volume petticoat.
  2. Rock a smart blazer or blouse with some super feminine aspects like puff sleeves, big bow collars, or lace.
  3. Express yourself with socks, tights, and accessories (bow headbands, hairclips, small charms, etc.) since those things aren't so "in your face. Slowly people will start to notice your Loli swag though.
  4. Some kick around mary janes, flat or otherwise, are always a plus. And while you're at it, cute flats with bows or updating your exisiting footwear with bows can work too.
*Working within a specific dress code could get tricky so keep some common Loli elements around like charms, a deco phone case ... you get the point. But things that tickle your kawaii Lolita senses will come in handy in such cases.

-Know what styles are suitable for the workplace: Usually, the easiest styles to work with are classic, aristocrat, and toned down goth. With these coordinate style types, somber colors, low volume petticoats, discreet hairbows, reserved embellishments, and limited accessories are definitely encouraged. Everything Lolita doesn't always have to be so OTT!

**Some people include old school sweet or sweet Lolita in these, but that can get tricky. That particular Lolita style is usually associated with lots of pinks and blues or pastel-type colors which could go either way in the work place, given your personal Lolita style. However, you could make a huge statement on days you may want to feel a bit "fancier" than others.

-Pay attention to color: As a Lolita you'll already stick out, so you don't have to work very hard at that. Know your surroundings and seek to gracefully enhance them, not just draw all the attention to yourself. In fact, the goal here, is NOT to stick out like a sore thumb. Most corrdinates can be muted, but you and only you know your work place and what others tend to wear, so color coordinate accordingly.

-Know your limits: While every Lolita wants to be able to coordinate to suit our little kawaii Lolita hearts, the fact of the matter is, there's a place and a time for everything. Find those moments where you can let your Lolita star shine to it's fullest potential. And until then, use the tips above to create your small slice of Lolita heaven at the workplace.

Import Game Watch: E.X. Troopers

It's time to go back to Japan for more upcoming games that they will be playing. This one is from the Nintendo 3DS and I'm really excited about this one. The game is called "E.X. Troopers." Here is a brief description from Play-Asia.com

Become an Ex Trooper, pilot Vital Suits to take down hostile forces. Bren Turner is a rookie in the academy. When the Vital Suit he was piloting with his tutor is attacked by a mysterious force, he has no choice but to go to war. Yet, that attack is just the beginning.

Bren can wield a main weapon and a sub weapon. Each can shoot a number of bullets. During reloading times, you are next to vulnerable, so make good use of your weapons and position yourself in the battles properly to make sure that your enemies can't take advantage of you.

Characters also has a Jet Pack. Use it to accelerate, break out of a circle of enemies or zoom near to a boss to shoot him at point blank. T-ENG is a very important energy source in the game. Store them up and trigger it when the forces of your enemies become overwhelming.

Here is the trailer from Tokyo Game Show and some stills from Play-Asia.com. The game will be released November 22nd 2012. I'm so envious of anybody with a Japanese 3DS.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn

The new Halo webseries is here.  This is a prequel to the upcoming Halo 4.

Episode 1

Haunted by ghosts from his past, he has serious doubts about the war he's expected to fight. As fellow cadet Chyler Silva tries to help him find his place at the academy, tensions with other squad members approach the breaking point.

Wrath Of The Ninja Review

In the year 1580, a man named Lord Nobunaga Oda sends hoards of unholy armies across Japan, slaying all who stand in their way. A young ninja escapes her villages' destruction with a short sword, one of the three mystical weapons that can end Oda's rule. During her quest, she is joined by two other ninjas who wield the other two weapons of legend, the sacred sword and spear.
