JAGEX TO OFFER FANS THE CHANCE TO VOTE FOR THE NAME OF TWO IN-GAME CLASSES, SHOWCASE CONCEPT ART AND SHOW FIRST LOOK GAME VISUALS

CAMBRIDGE, UK, October 13, 2011- Jagex Games Studio, one of the largest independent games developers and publishers in the world, and makers of the upcoming TRANSFORMERS UNIVERSE MMO, today announced their exciting plans for New York’s Comic-Con; which runs from Thursday October 13 to Sunday October 16

The Jagex game development and marketing team will be on hand at the convention to speak to visitors about the new MMO, slated for release in 2012, on experiential TRANSFORMERS UNIVERSE stand – number 522.

At the TRANSFORMERS UNIVERSE MMO stand fans will get a unique experience as they pass through the enclosed stand at Comic Con. They will have the chance to pledge their allegiance to either the AUTOBOT or DECEPTICON faction, customise their very own TRANSFORMERS CHARACTER and even have their photograph taken alongside their creation in the interactive journey.

Fans interaction with the game won’t stop there; while the customisation presented at Comic Con will offer fans a taste of what is to come within the game, Jagex today revealed that visitors to the stand will also have the chance to make their mark on the game by offering them the chance to influence the naming of both the AUTOBOT and DECEPTICON factions in one of the game’s player classes.

For the duration of the convention, visitors to the Transformers UNIVERSE MMO stand, along with followers of the game’s Facebook profile (www.facebook.com/transformersuniverse), will be able to vote on a number of pre-assigned names for each of the factions within a class, but in a bold move by Jagex, fans also have the chance to offer their own recommendation for the AUTOBOT and DECEPTICON factions. Voting will begin when the show opens its doors at 4.00pm EDT Thursday October 13 to 5.00pm EDT Sunday October 16.

Hey Otakus and Geek fans, Sean (The Comic Guy) here with more NYCC 2011 news. Thanks to the Guys at Dark Horse we were given the opportunity to review some exclusive titles soon to be released. Today I will be reviewing: House of Night#1, Orchid #1, Valve presents: The Sacrifice and other steam powered stories.

VALVE PRESENTS: THE SACRIFICE AND OTHER STEAM-POWERED STORIES

Writer: Various

Artist: Michael Avon Oeming, Various

Genre: Action/Adventure

Publication Date: November 16, 2011

For fifteen years, Valve has defined the cutting edge of video games. Now, Valve joins with Dark Horse to bring three critically acclaimed, fan-favorite series to print, with a hardcover collection of comics from the worlds of Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress, and Portal. With over two hundred pages of story, Valve Presents: The sacrifice and other Steam-Powered Stories is a must-read for fans looking to further explore the games they love or comics readers interested in dipping their toes into new mythos!

• Features comics from the bestselling series Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress!

Review: I have to say the book was a good read. For those Zombie enthusiasts out there, you will really love the Left 4 Dead story. I’m not into the Portal or Team Fortress games, so I wasn’t into those stories as much, but they were entertaining enough to keep me reading till the end. Overall this book is a good pick for your collection.

HOUSE OF NIGHT #1 (STEVE MORRIS VARIANT COVER)

Writer: P. C. Cast, Kristin Cast, Kent Dalian

Artist: Joëlle Jones, Karl Kerschl

Cover Artist:Steve Morris

Genre: Horror

Publication Date: November 09, 2011

Until recently, Zoey Redbird was an average high-school student worrying about grades, boys, and breakouts. But priorities have a way of changing when you are marked as a vampyre, enroll in the vampyre academy House of Night, and have to figure out a whole new social hierarchy, affinities for elemental magic, and physiological changes that make you crave blood.

* The magical world of New York Times best-selling authors P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast comes to comics!
* Five million novels sold and legions of loyal fans!
* Ask your local retailer how you can get this special variant cover issue!

Review: Ok I’m not really into the mystical world of magic or teen vampire books, but I am into hot chicks in schoolgirl outfits (laughs) just kidding! House of night changed that for me. With a good first issue story and well-drawn art, this is definitely a title to look for.

ORCHID #1 (SHEPARD FAIREY VARIANT COVER)

Writer: Tom Morello

Artist: Scott Hepburn

Colorist: Dan Jackson

Cover Artist: Shepard Fairey

Genre: Action/Adventure

Publication Date: October 12, 2011

From the mind of musician Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, The Nightwatchman) with art by Scott Hepburn (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic), Orchid is the tale of a teenage prostitute who learns that she is more than the role society has imposed upon her.

When the seas rose, genetic codes were smashed. Human settlements are ringed by a dense wilderness from which ferocious new animal species prey on the helpless. The high ground belongs to the rich and powerful that overlook swampland shantytowns from their fortress-like cities. Iron-fisted rule ensures order and allows the wealthy to harvest the poor as slaves. Welcome to the world of Orchid.

* Featuring a variant cover by the best-known and influential street artist Shepard Fairey!

So check out these titles and more at darkhorse.com and don’t forget to stop by the Dark Horse booth at New York Comic Con. This Sean(The Comic Guy) for Otakus and Geeks and I hope to see you guys at the Con.

X-Men Destiny Review

If there is one thing that is always on an X-Men fans mind is who to side with. Who should I follow? Should I follow Professor Charles Xavier and defend those who would fear us, and try to make ? Should I follow Magento and fight to preserve mutant kind. Activision and Silicon Knights gives the chance. However is this a destiny fulfilled, or a destiny deferred?

Story - X-Men Destiny puts players in the hands of three mutants, which they get to choose who to follow. After the death of Charles Xavier, the X-Men move to San Francisco where they are in peace talks with the locals. A event is taking place where mutant and humans have agreed to live together. As usual things are not what they seem, the event is attack and the number suspect is Magneto. An all out battle breaks out between mutants and a crusade of humans who called themselves "The Purifiers." Based on the character you choose, you will get a different backstory. My personal favorite is Adrian, because he was raised as a Purifier. Here you have a mutant who is a mutant hater, it makes for a great story and I felt his journey is better. However it really doesn't matter which character you choose. The endings and choices will be the same, which is disappointing. I was hoping for different endings for each character, the story is interesting and worthy to have the X-Men stamp on it. The story hits the theme of the X-Men on the head. The game delivers on the drama, and while playing you might get conflicted on who to side with. Overall the story is solid and enjoyable, just disappointing that there isn't multiple endings.

Gameplay - The game is in the action genre with a little bit of RPG elements. Players get to choose which of the three mutants they will play as. From the start they have the option of choosing which style of mutant power they will have. Energy Protection is a power where players can shoot energy blast from their hands. Shadow Matter is when when you can immediate unseen dark matter around your body and use it as a solid object, similar to Nightcrawler if that helps. Finally Density Control where you can control the body mass. Needless to say the selection of the core powers is limited and a bit disappointing. However the game attempts to make up with it by collection X-Genes. X-Genes are items that are based on the mutant characters feature in the story. It's divided into three sections, Offensive, Defensive and Utility. Offensive will modify combat attacks and mutant abilities. Defensive Genes will improve armor, health etc. Finally Utility X-Genes will help with your M-Power meter.

The gameplay can get repetitive, you basically have to do missions to either save a mutant, restore power or find a object to help move you along. The fighting mechanics could use a little work, the lock on system is horrendous and the camera angles can be frustrating when multiple enemies are on screen. What saves the gameplay will be the mutant X-Genes and the different combination you can do. It's just disappointing that you couldn't create your own mutant from the scratch. The ending is a huge disappointment, and it really doesn't matter which side you choose. The boss battles are fun, but some are annoying dude to sloppy design and terrible lock on system. Frame rate can slow down a tad when it has a lot of enemies on screen, but thankfully it's doesn't kill the experience. If you love X-Men and deal with a repetitive, sometimes flawed design, then you'll get some enjoyment out of this one.

Gameplay Video

Graphics - The graphics aren't great, but it isn't terrible either. It's pretty average. The locations are pretty bland, generic and uninspired. However this game has one cool menu screen, which integrates the beginning of the story. Overall the graphics aren't nothing special, and it doesn't scream out this is amazing, but it does capture the X-Men universe to a par.

Sound - The voice acting is a hit or miss. Some voices really capture the characters, like Cyclops voice was spot on. Others on the other didn't fit and will make you cringe. The music is enjoyable to listen too, it makes the battles feel more intense. It sets the tone for the story and has some pretty cool stand out tracks.

Replay Value - There is no offline or online coop. The story is the same regardless of what character you choose, unless you want every trophy/achievement this game is a one trip ride.

Final Grade D-/5.0:: X-Men Destiny will leave you unfilled. The gameplay is repetitive and flawed. The story ending will leave you disappointed regardless of which side you choose. The voice acting is a hit or miss, but the music is enjoyable. Final Grade D-/5.0.

Alex Pardee Goodness!

Of course! Still being on my high from LA & San Fran's art scene (that's about to shift because I'm on a plane to London on Monday!) I would be likely to find one of San Fran's talented artists ... maybe ever?, Alex Pardee! While I'm not aware of being graced with his work while I was our west, I'm quite familiar with some of his inner workings!
Artistically, I'd say we're related ... something like distant cousins, possibly twice removed, as our represented works have a gallery in common - Art Whino. With that being said, I'll bypass the standard "about this guy's work" spill ... and let it speak for itself!

First up! ... Sucker Punch!
I'll keep my personal feelings about Sucker Punch to myself and accept that the flawless saving grace for me tolerating this movie was the yummy eye candy of costumes and art. It's pleased me even more to know that Perdee was the brains behind the art game!

Next UP! ... CAGE's covers!
One of Definitive Jux's secret weapons, Cage, has been blessed with some Perdee goodness, too! He IS the man behind Cage's past albums, Hell's Winter and Depart From Me.
I had a chance to tattoo a piece that was in Depart From Me's liner notes ... it was one of the most enjoyable experiences to temporarily get lost in is world through his characters.

As a tip, my customer blessed me with some of his original art!

Last, but NOT least ... Perdee's got TOOYYSS!!!!!
Check out his Walrus Rider. If no where eles, you can certainly buy it at Art Whino! I don't think I really need to say anything except ... who doesn't looove collecting cool vinyl figures! His are beyond cool ... so THERE! :-P

It doesn't really stop with this guy so I'll just share some of the eye candy I found super sexy!!!! Some geek related & some just plain ol' COOL!

be sure to follow along on tumblr as we informally post art & fashion weekly!
til next time!
