X-Men Destiny Review

If there is one thing that is always on an X-Men fans mind is who to side with. Who should I follow? Should I follow Professor Charles Xavier and defend those who would fear us, and try to make ? Should I follow Magento and fight to preserve mutant kind. Activision and Silicon Knights gives the chance. However is this a destiny fulfilled, or a destiny deferred?

Story - X-Men Destiny puts players in the hands of three mutants, which they get to choose who to follow. After the death of Charles Xavier, the X-Men move to San Francisco where they are in peace talks with the locals. A event is taking place where mutant and humans have agreed to live together. As usual things are not what they seem, the event is attack and the number suspect is Magneto. An all out battle breaks out between mutants and a crusade of humans who called themselves "The Purifiers." Based on the character you choose, you will get a different backstory. My personal favorite is Adrian, because he was raised as a Purifier. Here you have a mutant who is a mutant hater, it makes for a great story and I felt his journey is better. However it really doesn't matter which character you choose. The endings and choices will be the same, which is disappointing. I was hoping for different endings for each character, the story is interesting and worthy to have the X-Men stamp on it. The story hits the theme of the X-Men on the head. The game delivers on the drama, and while playing you might get conflicted on who to side with. Overall the story is solid and enjoyable, just disappointing that there isn't multiple endings.

Gameplay - The game is in the action genre with a little bit of RPG elements. Players get to choose which of the three mutants they will play as. From the start they have the option of choosing which style of mutant power they will have. Energy Protection is a power where players can shoot energy blast from their hands. Shadow Matter is when when you can immediate unseen dark matter around your body and use it as a solid object, similar to Nightcrawler if that helps. Finally Density Control where you can control the body mass. Needless to say the selection of the core powers is limited and a bit disappointing. However the game attempts to make up with it by collection X-Genes. X-Genes are items that are based on the mutant characters feature in the story. It's divided into three sections, Offensive, Defensive and Utility. Offensive will modify combat attacks and mutant abilities. Defensive Genes will improve armor, health etc. Finally Utility X-Genes will help with your M-Power meter.

The gameplay can get repetitive, you basically have to do missions to either save a mutant, restore power or find a object to help move you along. The fighting mechanics could use a little work, the lock on system is horrendous and the camera angles can be frustrating when multiple enemies are on screen. What saves the gameplay will be the mutant X-Genes and the different combination you can do. It's just disappointing that you couldn't create your own mutant from the scratch. The ending is a huge disappointment, and it really doesn't matter which side you choose. The boss battles are fun, but some are annoying dude to sloppy design and terrible lock on system. Frame rate can slow down a tad when it has a lot of enemies on screen, but thankfully it's doesn't kill the experience. If you love X-Men and deal with a repetitive, sometimes flawed design, then you'll get some enjoyment out of this one.

Gameplay Video

Graphics - The graphics aren't great, but it isn't terrible either. It's pretty average. The locations are pretty bland, generic and uninspired. However this game has one cool menu screen, which integrates the beginning of the story. Overall the graphics aren't nothing special, and it doesn't scream out this is amazing, but it does capture the X-Men universe to a par.

Sound - The voice acting is a hit or miss. Some voices really capture the characters, like Cyclops voice was spot on. Others on the other didn't fit and will make you cringe. The music is enjoyable to listen too, it makes the battles feel more intense. It sets the tone for the story and has some pretty cool stand out tracks.

Replay Value - There is no offline or online coop. The story is the same regardless of what character you choose, unless you want every trophy/achievement this game is a one trip ride.

Final Grade D-/5.0:: X-Men Destiny will leave you unfilled. The gameplay is repetitive and flawed. The story ending will leave you disappointed regardless of which side you choose. The voice acting is a hit or miss, but the music is enjoyable. Final Grade D-/5.0.

Alex Pardee Goodness!

Of course! Still being on my high from LA & San Fran's art scene (that's about to shift because I'm on a plane to London on Monday!) I would be likely to find one of San Fran's talented artists ... maybe ever?, Alex Pardee! While I'm not aware of being graced with his work while I was our west, I'm quite familiar with some of his inner workings!
Artistically, I'd say we're related ... something like distant cousins, possibly twice removed, as our represented works have a gallery in common - Art Whino. With that being said, I'll bypass the standard "about this guy's work" spill ... and let it speak for itself!

First up! ... Sucker Punch!
I'll keep my personal feelings about Sucker Punch to myself and accept that the flawless saving grace for me tolerating this movie was the yummy eye candy of costumes and art. It's pleased me even more to know that Perdee was the brains behind the art game!

Next UP! ... CAGE's covers!
One of Definitive Jux's secret weapons, Cage, has been blessed with some Perdee goodness, too! He IS the man behind Cage's past albums, Hell's Winter and Depart From Me.
I had a chance to tattoo a piece that was in Depart From Me's liner notes ... it was one of the most enjoyable experiences to temporarily get lost in is world through his characters.

As a tip, my customer blessed me with some of his original art!

Last, but NOT least ... Perdee's got TOOYYSS!!!!!
Check out his Walrus Rider. If no where eles, you can certainly buy it at Art Whino! I don't think I really need to say anything except ... who doesn't looove collecting cool vinyl figures! His are beyond cool ... so THERE! :-P

It doesn't really stop with this guy so I'll just share some of the eye candy I found super sexy!!!! Some geek related & some just plain ol' COOL!

be sure to follow along on tumblr as we informally post art & fashion weekly!
til next time!

Ursa’s Lament (Avatar: The Last Airbender Fanfiction)

Hey Otakus and Geeks here is our New York Comic Con contest winner fanfiction. Congrats Lenora! Great job.

Title: Ursa’s Lament
By: Lenora Ashford
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender

What a shame. You always had such beautiful hair…
Yes, I was there. Before the comet arrived, I made my way into the city. I watched my daughter slip into madness and my son take the throne with the Avatar at his side. My husband was sent to his proper place, a cell in prison.
Where he belongs.
“Hello, my husband.”

He looks at me through strands of his hair, squinting in confusion. “You were banished.”
“I believe the new Fire Lord will be lenient with me.” His face hardens. “Yes, our son was crowned today. And our daughter was committed.”
Ozai snears at me. “He will never accept you. You abandoned him; his own mother. Vanished without a trace leaving her discarded children behind. He will banish you again.”
And he would have every right to do so. The scar on Zuko’s face wouldn’t be there if I had found a way to bring him with me. “Then that will be my fate. But if he let you live after burning his face, I believe he will be merciful.” My rage shows on my face. “You scarred your own son and fed your daughter’s madness. If I am a failure as a mother because I left, you are a failure as a father because you stayed.”
I expect to be hit with flame myself but Ozai only glares at me until he can’t hold my gaze anymore.
I don’t know why I wait. There will be no apology from him, no excuses. I envy him in that I have no delusion I am blameless. I did abandon my son and daughter to a madman.

Wordlessly, I turn away from him, my Earth Kingdom robes kicking up dust from the floor. The small village which sheltered me was very kind to me all these years; giving me shelter and the provisions to return.
I hear my husband snicker at my back. “You will join me in here, Ursa.”
I don’t turn around. I look only ahead of me at the road that will take me to my son.
A little girl stops me mere steps from the gates to the palace. Her eyes are clouded and feet bare and I stop at her raised hand.

“Who are you?”
By the spirits, she really is only a child! “I-I have come to see Fire Lord Zuko. I am his mother.”
She pauses, sightless eyes widening in shock. “You’re telling the truth.” She tilts her head; listening for what, I do not know. “Follow me.”
The girl leads me away from the guards and earth bends a secret doorway. We both enter a series of dark corridors I am certain did not exist until she made them.

“May I ask what you are doing?”
“Sneaking you into Zuko’s office. Nobody’s there now but he will be soon.”

She rests her hand on the wall for a moment before bending a clean doorway, a slab of earth descending into the floor. “Go on in. He’ll be back in a bit.”
“Why are you helping me?”

“You’re Zuko’s mother. I’m sure he’ll wanna see you.” A sadness passes over her eyes before she forces it aside for a sly grin. “And he owes me for burning my feet. We’re even if he passes out from shock.”

She waves me through the door and closes it behind me. I survey the space but don’t truly see the lush furnishings around me. I am too nervous to move, my heart roaring in my chest. I do not feel time pass. It is forever and only a moment before the latch stirs and the door opens to reveal the face of a man. A Fire Lord. Gone is the child I left behind and I struggle for a greeting.
“Good evening, my son.”

His smile fades in the wake of his shock, his feet rooted to the spot. “Mother...”
It’s a start. Surprise is better than revulsion. I take it as a sign of hope.

Adam's Morgan Day :: Art & Fashion!

Adam's Morgan Day is a great outdoor festival for one of the most eccentric melting pots of neighborhoods in Washington, DC. -Adam's Morgan. As invitees, Indian Pussy Brand moved their goodies from Artistic Sole headquarters to 18th Street, NW in the heart of Adam's Morgan.
Once I got settled I decided to take a stroll & find some otaku goodness to share! OZKER of Sleeper Cell Productions & Indian Pussy Brand model/ noted piercer, Sarah, & Seven stayed back at our temporary headquarters partying with the good people interested in our art!

On my stroll, it was a pleasure to run into one of our good friends, Kelly Chin, of Chinhamaya Organization. Kelly is GREAT! Not only is she the area's adopted mom for us otakus ... & geeks!, but she also oversees a youth taiko drumming group. The kids in the group are amazingly talented and dedicated to their individual arts. Kelly's super power is that she specializes in making kimekomi dolls.
If you're ever in the area and want to take a class of how-to's ... be sure to check her out!

Mean while ...

Back at the tent, The Peligro Brothers, DJ Provoke & OZKER, are getting it in! I think by the time I stopped back in, they were on to some dance music & kept the crowd there!

Since everyone was occupied and happy, I snuck off to see t-shirts! In REAL LIFE ... what otaku, fan boy/girl, or every day person does not need a dope tee in their life!
Please, do me a solid & check out these tees from Fuzzy Ink. Their tagline is "It'll grow on you" ... and trust!, it doesn't take very long.
Be sure to check out their sight for some cool fashionably affordable tees!

Well! I had to get back & shut down shop, so til next week ...

Free Portal Off Steam & Weaponized Nyan Cat

If you have Steam go to Learning With Portals, to get yourself a free copy of the award winning Portals, if you don't have Stream, go and download it from HERE, get an account and then go back to learn with portals and get it for free. This is the first game and not the second one. The reason for these guys giving the game out for free, is because they want people to use it as a learning tool for getting people, mainly students get into math, science, technology and engineering.

Now as a huge fan of Portal I got to say this is the most amazing thing ever for schools. Portal shows the best way to teach new ideas. My time with the first one really broke the game down into 2 parts, the teaching of new concepts and then the using of them. If Valve did not understand that the idea of portals would be easy to understand, they would not have spent so much time using the test chambers and glaDOS to explain things to you and the promise of cake..... delicious cake but anyway check out the site and get your free copy, do it meow (super trooper reference for the win) and download it the reason why is because this free copy is only until the 20th September. Here is also the link to PORTALS if you just want to download it.

This next thing is totally sweet. Its a mod created by Scott Coxhead (AKA Cr4zy) in collaboration with - Bi()ha2ard and Azurescorch for Unreal Tournament 3 and they created a weaponize Nyan Cat.
Check out the video.

Now with that being said and shown, two things come to mind: 1. This is the most random and epic awesome thing I have seen in years. 2. It will now link the nyan cat song to pant shitting moments. THINK ABOUT IT: your in an intense free for all and out the blue you hear that song just start... you know someone is going to die when that song stops and you dont want it to be you but it could be because its RADIO CONTROLLED POPTART SPACE CAT OF DEATH. Thats just beyond awesome. To download your space cat of death mod click HERE and go nuts. you have to scroll down the page a bit to find it.

Am going to leave this here for everyone to enjoy, trust me its amazing.

Cool Stuff From Boomslank.Com

Hey Otakus and Geeks readers. I just wanted you guys and gals to know about a cool site, that sells some nice original shirts, I-Pod cases and more. The site is called Boomslank.com What I like about Boomslank is that all of their designs are original, also the prices are good as well. Here are some of there cool shirts below, don't forget to check out their site at Boomslank.com for prices and more cool stuff.

Zero Frame: This shirt was inspired by Mech Anime. As a Mech fan myself I really love the design and color choice of this shirt.

Strike Witch: Otaku boys please don't have a nerdgasm. Needless to say the design of the Strike Witch is awesome. The horns, the gun and the sassy look on her face is great.

Zero Frame Case: The Zero design for I-Phone cases, another well done job.
