Jem & The Holograms Trailer and Reaction

Yesterday Jem & The Holograms trailer was released. A small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ Emotional and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.

Reaction: Okay I didn't watch Jem as child on Saturday mornings on CBS. Frankly I was watching Turtles. However I did recently binged watch it on Netflix. I was actually surprised how good the show was. What I like about the show is it had strong female characters. This is something you usually didn't see in the 80's cartoon world. After binged watching the series I see why so many women of that era love Jem. It was a fun show, with positive female characters and each girl were flawed to a degree but overcame adversity.

The trailer didn't capture anything about the cartoon. Jem doesn't seem to have a musical family background. There is no sign of the Misfits. The trailer feels like a dark coming of age story, instead of a fun coming of the age story. Where is magic, glitter, fashion and fame? The music doesn't give me a contiguous feel. I'm not a huge Jem fan but the only thing shown right was Synergy. However this just the first trailer. I won't judge the film till its released.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (and the kitchen sink) Will be in Capt. America: Civil War

Hey O&G fans, it seems Marvel is gearing up to throw every MCU character at you in Capt. America: Civil War. This might be the most comic book character loaded movie to date. Civil War will have atleast up to 16 Marvel character, its almost the whole cinematic universe ( But if they are following the comic book story, Thor and the Hulk won't be in it). Here is the film synopsis:

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

It will be great if the movie has characters from all past, present, Future and films. After his debut in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man. Other characters to appear, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes / War Machine, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Jarvis / Vision, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Falcon, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus Ross, Martin Freeman as (Unknown Character).

We will see if the movie follows the comic book story arch, if so we might see other Marvel characters appear like the Punisher, Spiderman, Luke cage, and Daredevil. It is also possible some Villains and minor heroes could make cameo's to make the movie more bad ass than it's already shaping up to be.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Marvel Studios has commenced principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on “Captain America: Civil War,” the third installment of its Super Hero franchise. The production will shoot on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production, as well as locations in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.

Captain America: Civil War is set to premiere May 6th 2016.

Avengers : Age of Ultron Review

When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and it is up to the Avengers to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans.

The most anticipated movie of the summer is finally here. The stakes couldn't be higher for the mighty Avengers. However while the stakes are raised higher, the feel of intensity is not there. Avengers: Age of Ultron is a filmed made well done, but taste medium rare. Does Age of Ultron live up to expectations? Yes it does. Does Joss Whedon deliver on the action, story and direction? Yes and no.

As stated in the synopsis above. Tony Stark (Iron Man) has created a peacekeeping program, to ensure better protection of the planet. When the program becomes aware of its existence, it revolts and Ultron begins to plot his own plans for peace. However not without a price, which is human extinction.

Joss Whedon nails the overall story arc for the film. The film has the classic "Frankenstein" feel to it. The feeling of I have created a monster weighs heavy on Tony Stark. When this dynamic is front and center the film is amazing. The relationship between Ultron and Tony is a rocky one and explored in depth. Since Ultron is Tony's creation, his actions are a reflection of Tony's true feelings. What I love most is how the Avengers questions Tony's motives, especially Captain America. Who gave Tony the authority to take such an action? Why does he feel compelled to be the policeman of the world? This causes a rift in the relationship between Cap and Tony, which is a nice set up for Civil War.

If the movie kept this momentum I would have enjoyed it more. Unfortunately the film releases the tension in order to keep with the tone of the overall cinematic universe. What started as a great character arc for Stark gets toned down to focus on Black Widow's rushed, underdeveloped relationship with The Hulk. The love story would've been better if it had built up to it like how she flirted with Captain America in “Winter Solider.” Nothing was truly hinted in previous films that they would be together. This leaves the relationship coming off as random. It takes away from the high stakes established by Ultron. That feeling of intensity I had was lost when the film had to focus on individual story arcs. This is the biggest problem with Marvel Cinematic universe. It tends to focus on the later than the now, which makes the films feel like a setup than an actual complete story.  The film had to play the role of sequel and origin story for some characters such as The Vision, Black Widow, Ultron and Quicksilver. Whedon does the best he could, giving us a sequel for established characters, while balancing enough time for us to connect to the new ones. It was nice to learn more about Hawkeye who finally get his shine. Jeremey Renner shows us a Hawkeye that is more than an archer for hire. Exploring his life was refreshing but it could have easily been a one shot deal.

Overall Age of Ultron is a fun ride. The action delivers on what you expect. However, with no real intensity, you get the feeling the Avengers will all make it out. The tone constantly shuffling from dark to family friendly gives a feeling that Marvel is trying to play it safe.
